If the Rangers had any chance in hell of winning that series, I'd probably feel the same way.

Tied 2-2, they had a goal waived off on Straka in game 5, were leading up until the 3rd period, lost it dramatically, and then lost the following game in OT... maybe it wasn't a big shot, but I think they gave that year's Pens a good run for their money. Could have won too if they had more resilience.

That one hurt. Feels like yesterday.

I was in much more pain after 2012 Conference Finals loss though. I took a 3 hour drive by myself and sat in a desolate parking lot for a few hours after that game.

Inconsolable.

I was about as shocked when they lost that ECF game as I was by the Red Wedding. Couldn't speak a word for about 45 minutes.

Dude! Stop trying to rationalize the situation. Penguins fans are not "fair-weather" fans. Any real hockey fan knew that Crosby would be available in 2005, so the Penguin fans did what any real fans would do to get him, they stopped attending and watching the team in order to drive the team near the brink of bankruptcy. They knew that tanking is the only way to build a successful team, but if they kept giving money to the team, nothing would change. That is why they had to take matters into their own hands. There was a risk that the franchise would have been moved north of the border, but true fans are willing to do what it takes. Now that they have Crosby and a cup, they are free to come back to the team the love.

Bunch of horse ****. True fans are willing to be so unsupportive that they are willing to not have a team at all to root for?

Why not Penguinettes?:handclap:

I couldn't think of a snotty name for the Pens, so I consulted Buzz Killington for some advice. He said that he found two common names for female penguins. One name is a hen, and the other name is a Fenguin.
He then proceeded to laugh in his snotty voice.

I was unsatisfied, so I decided to do my own research, and I found this:

The Emperor Penguin was described in 1844 by English zoologist George Robert Gray, who created its generic name from Ancient Greek word elements, ἀ-πτηνο-δύτης [a-ptēno-dytēs], "without-wings-diver". Its specific name is in honour of the German naturalist Johann Reinhold Forster, who accompanied Captain James Cook on his second Pacific Voyage and officially named five other penguin species.

I think the ancient greek definition is most fitting. I mean, they are penguins, aren't they?

I agree it is a tough decision, but I hope that like the true penguin fans, I would have the intestinal fortitude to publicly abandon my team. Alas, It's a risk one must take...

Although the man I'm about to quote may not have sacrificed as much for his country as the penguin fans did for their franchise, his words help me to fully appreciate the commitment of the Pittsburg hockey fans:

"I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country."

-Nathan Hale (June 6, 1755 – September 22, 1776) was a soldier for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He volunteered for an intelligence-gathering mission in New York City but was captured by the British and executed.

I'm too chocked up right now. I need a break. True fans... /tear

They lost the series to the Pens in '08 in 5 games

This appears to be the most difficult path to the cup I've ever seen.

Even if NYR somehow were able to get past Pittsburgh and Boston, they'd run smack into the fittest of all those super Western teams.

Id say 3 of the top contenders were knocked out in the first (if you considered Colorado to be a true contender which is highly debatable). St. Louis, SJS and borderline Colorado.

I found out about Henrique's OT goal on my prom night.

It was safe to say that night ended with a lot, and I mean a lot of beer.

Completing our Pennsylvanian tour by beating Pittsburgh would be oh so sweet. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Have they created an allergy pill for a team allergic to winning two in a row? I know fast acting Advil doesn't work since it is not an allergy pill and I assume that Claritn-D hasn't been found to work for that allergy.

Why do I use fast acting Advil? Because my defensemen forget guys in my crease

Need some offense from McDonagh. Was a complete non-factor offensively vs Flyers. Lack of offense from him probably contributed to the PP going cold.

Need more of everything from McDonagh. Had a series to get the rust out, now he needs to step it up. He was showing promising signs in game 7, so hopefully he continues to build on it.
