Every team embellishes now, not just the Penguins, so the ref thing shouldn't be an issue.

I think the NHL has given up on the whole "flagship franchise" thing, since Chicago has more cups since the Crosby era than Pittsburgh.

We have to score on the powerplay...We also will see how AV makes up this team differently vs Torts did. Because Torts Rangers were not built to face the Penguins, AV's offensive minded scheme can help if we can get Nash to awaken and pepper Fleury with goals

A couple of things:

A) the refs will not allow us to advance

B) if for some reason we did we would have to either face the Bs or play games in MTL

Ouch

Yes, the refs will not allow us to advance. Unless we do, then of course in the next round the refs will not allow us to advance. Unless we do, then...

So far, AV took his team to win game 7 of the first round. Just like Torts. The PP has been abysmal. Just like Torts. Nash has not scored a goal. Just like Torts. Debatable what team is built to face what team.

Nash awakening to score goals would mean something that he has not done in his entire career.

At least AV makes smart changes on the lineup

Yes, and so far AV has done it with a team that was largely constructed with Torts at the helm.

Torts had years and shipped off players to bring in guys who fit his "style."

AV has adapted to the team. It will be interesting to see if there are a lot of moves this off-season or if this is the team AV wants to build around.

Remember, this is year one of the AV era. Torts inherited this team with a lot of holes, but it took him 3 seasons to move past the first round.

His hand in building the team though is still relative to our success today.

Thirty shots on goal. Zero goals. Shooting percentage of zero. Regular season shooting percentage of ten.

It's not like he isn't getting shots, and yes not all of them are "great scoring chances" but if he keeps getting the looks hegot last night the likelihood of his shooting percentage remaining zero is about as likely as it was MSL would never score with the Rangers.

I know I am in the minority but I am actually shocked he did not find the twine against Philadelphia and it says more about Mason than Nash if you were watching those games. Especially last night.

Does anyone else think Ulf Samuelson is so instrumental to our team? I think he may get a gig as a head coach

The Pens bottom 6 hasn't been this weak in a very long time, and their D is the same garbage it's been the last 3 years. That's my optimism.

Thank the lord for that! When I was worried about this matchup, I couldn't get the Pens 3rd and 4th lines out of my head!

What are the chances that fluery plays out of his ass against us?

/Sigh. The following post beat me to it.

The Rangers make goalies look better than they really are. He'll end up playing like Patrick Roy against us.

Exactly!

Id be calling for bettmans head if i was sather

Sather would have to give a hoot to get all hot and bothered!

You're crazy. People overrate CBJ because of their grit and hard work, but they're not that talented. After Johanson who is their 2nd best forward?

Talent Shmalent! This was alluded to earlier in the thread. The Pens have a weak bottom Six. Depth wins!

[CBJ] They have depth. They have solid defense. They have (better) goaltending.

Their forwards are big and fast. They might not be as talented, but they're physical and would wear us down.

Not to mention the "Ex-Ranger Factor" is a living, breathing entity at this point. Like "backup goalie shut out", it's no longer a joke, but more of a reality that should legitimately be taken into account.

No. The Rangers would have a better shot against the hard working Blue Jackets.

Lets see.
Orpik injured
Letang is recently back after suffering a stroke
Fleury is their starting goaltender.
2 of their centers got injurd in game 6 against colombus
There's also rumors of crosby playing with an injury.

DID I MENTION THEY HAVE FLEURY IN NET?

That's why the Penguins loss in round 1 to the superior Blue Jackets didn't surprise me.

Your HFNYR dice game of scapegoats, roll to see who to blame!

1. Hank
2. Hank
3. The refs
4. Nash
5. Sather
6. Hank

The league hates the Rangers. If the Penguins were playing any other team, the calls would be even, Those out-of-towner clowns who run this league hate New Yorkers! Although the only Ranger who lived at some time remotely close to NYC, Ryan Calalhan from upper NYS, is no longer on the team, the league insists on treating our Canadian and Swedish born players based on an unrepresentative stereotype.

New Yorkers may be tough, but we have a heart of gold! If the US headquarters of the NHL would move from the midwest to central manhattan, they would see our spirit, and we wouldn't have to worry about this bias.

:naughty:

LGR!

As for who's guarding the Crosby line:

Over the regular season games, I seem to remember Zucc covering Kunitz on numerous occasions. Wonder if we'll be watching Brassard vs. Crosby.

I think it'll be a very offensive minded series.

LOL every fan base has it's own persecution complex. Fans of Canadian teams think the league hates them because they don't want Canadian teams in the Stanley Cup finals. Fans of teams in the South think the league does not want Southern teams in the playoffs. Fans of teams in the West think the league does not want teams in Western time zones to advance in the playoffs. Fans of teams in the Northeast think the league hates them because they're not Pittsburgh or Detroit. Fans in Pittsburgh and Detroit think the league hates them because the networks are sick of showing Pittsburgh and Detroit.

And fans in New York think the league hates them because they don't want their biggest US market to be represented in the Stanley Cup finals. Makes perfect sense.

There is no conspiracy. Just bad inconsistent reffing.

Dominic Moore is a nice player. But he's no Brandon Dubinsky.

Dubi is excelling in the role and system he's in now. Happy for him. No guarantee he would have been this successful for this coach this year. Completely different style than he is used to playing.

McDonagh should be on the ice whenever Crysby is. Staal should be on the ice whenever Malkin is. Only thing I worry about in this series is the inevitable James Neal elbow to the head of Lundqvist or McD or Zucc or St.Louis with no suspension.

If the Brass-Poo-Zucc line stays hot, I think we can beat them.

The lack of the Rangers killer instinct might come back to haunt them because the schedule is just brutal. You can't help but think fatigue will play a factor.

That said, this Pitts team isn't as deep as the ones of yesteryear. Biggest difference is their depth upfront and on defense.

Pitts is two pairs deep on D, and has two strong top lines but does not have much going beyond that.

5 v 5, the Rangers are better, deeper, and have the horses to matchup and then some.

Two things the Rangers can't do are trade chances, and get into penalty trouble. Pitts has the firepower to make the Rangers pay.

Mac Truck and G can't have the series they did against the Flyers, because Crosby will make them pay.

The Rangers have the luxury of putting out McD and Staal in alternating pairs against Crosby and Malkin.

Nash needs to step up. The way he played in game 7 is how he needs to play every shift.

Mac Truck needs to get back to his A game.

AV will get match up advantages against Pitts lack of depth, but it will be up to the players to execute.

I hate ****tsburgh. I hate them with every fiber of my being. I hate their bandwagon fans, I hate their players, I hate their coaches, but more than anything, I hate their whining ***** of an owner. Lepoo is a disgrace to hockey. He was willing to let every player on his team get the crap kicked out of them at his expense. He was a coward. Forget all of the sickness he overcame, the guy is a first class a-hole and is a disgrace to the game just like crysby. Vanquish this trash to hell boys.

He's a hockey legend, both on the ice and in the front office.

And also, there aren't many bandwagon fans in Pittsburgh. I'm sure you're quite well aware of our success in many sports. We're not fair weather fans. Yeah, the Pens aren't an original six team like the Rangers, but they've been around since '67. They've been selling out arenas since '84. It's a pretty decent hockey town now.

The Rangers are like the 4th or 5th most popular team in the NY area, at least.

You really should not have taken his rant seriously. I didn't.

But on your part, there is no need to come into a Rangers forum to tell Ranger fans what the fan situation is in New York.
