That brings back memories..... Honors and High honors track..

I think they even called the low track the remedial track. Eventually it got upbranded in my high school as S.T.A.R track.

This was late 90s/year 2000.

I can assume that is all gone now? Does this qualify me to be allowed to say "in my days....when I was in school ..."

Good. Flag the assholes that have spread misinformation and are ruining our country. I have no problem with them doing that. They reap what they sow
Our country has been in the process of being "ruined" for decades.

It's still standing but whatever.

Let's talk Devils Hockey again. :D

Somewhere there is a quote by one of the classic Greek philosophers about how the young people pay no attention to their elders and only care about socializing and wearing fashionable clothes. It’s pretty funny.

Broad platform social media is not a good thing in my view. Giving the average person access to potentially millions of followers is a recipe for the ills it has created. Conspiracies healing cancer with water and weird extremist political stuff that is obvious BS but people believe etc.

Someone once repeated a saying to me that has some validity. Think about how ignorant the average person is. Then remember that half are even worse.

I have this same "spirited heated discussion" with my wife on occasion. She's 180 degrees from me. All over social media, including Tik Tok. I'm a firm believer that any person who has an account with any social media site is a participant in the minds of the demented, misinformed, and outright jackasses, a potential audience member for their bullshit and keyboard warrior takes on everything, not to mention live streaming horrible events.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Social media will be the demise of this country.

Problem is, everyone believes the "other side" is misinformed.
And this is the main point.

When you allow BOTH sides to have a voice.

Either side will say their opinion is the right one.

But you know what?

That's fine because both sides are ENTITLED to their opinion (wrong or not) and should not be censored for it (as it was the case Pre-Elon for one side).

Any person can say something stupid-as-f on Twitter just like any person can let that person know how stupid it was.

It's how Twitter used to be back in the early 2000s and now it's close to being back to how it was then after Elon took over.

As someone who was on Twitter a lot back then: it was A LOT better then than it is now.

But that's not Elon's fault, or Jack Dorsey's or Zuckerberg's or anyone else's, really.

Old people learned how to computer over the past 17 years (As evidenced by our dear @My3Sons). Stupid people did too.

Before that, most social media users were in the same age bracket, in similar education levels (High school and college aged), and similar in a lot of ways, as you kinda had to have some sort of nerd in you to log in to a web site and talk to strangers. Hell, look at us. We're on a hockey forum (A nearly defunct technology) and have been forever; we're nerds, all of us. We argue over microstats of 13th forwards.

Now that social media is ubiquitous, and people can parlay the attention from it into careers and celebrity, you get a ton of assholes.

As far as I can tell, all Elon did is break the platform and flip the banning spree towards the other side.

A high school buddy of mine was one of thr the first Twitter users. He invited me to join when I was just being launched and I politely declined. At the time it was because their marketing pitch didn’t match what they said it was going to be but I thought email was immediate enough and the 140 character limit couldn’t possibly work for a lawyer

That's why I said it was CLOSE to being back to how it was; not that it was back to how it was.

It still has some warts (like it always did).

As far as the banning spree thing goes, if banning idiots who spout hateful garbage (that is actual hate and not manufactured) is what is happening, then things are all the better for it.

This is why I'm praying that Threads gets off the ground and improves so that many of the loons can go there, stay in that echo-chamber patting each other on the back, while the rest stick around in a less-insane (and more common-sense) Twitter.

I do think older ppl are more of a problem than most realize. Their access to this stuff floods it with stupidity although that's not limited to the older crowd, they're definitely heavily saturated in it. Every dumb political meme, race baiting, nonsensical post had a ton of old ppl all over it. They're the same ones who see these obviously scam posts and click the share button thinking it's real.

Old people are the worst. I’d have them all removed from society. I’d make it like Logan’s Run so only young people like me would thrive. Those old timers could all be locked away. I can’t imagine how anyone could live with themselves once they are maybe 35.

I'm gonna be 35 next March. I don't look forward to that. 40 will be an inevitable mid-life crisis waiting to happen.
