As an Manhattanite living on a budget, I'd absolutely go to AHL games in the Bronx regardless of affiliation.

I'm priced out of Rangers games at this point, unless it's a midweek game against a western conference team, and sometimes a guy just wants to throw some back at a live game.

I thought the Sound Tigers were moving to the Coliseum and the Wolfpack were moving to Bridgeport? Maybe the Albany Devils could move there.

Messier needs to go away. Who in god's name would go to the Bronx for hockey, especially at night.

Why not? It's going to be a world-class arena (hopefully), and pretty much every local hockey org is probably going to be using it, to some extent.

Not to mention, there's literally a 4 stop on the corner of where the building will be.

Yeah I only go when I take clients and honestly I don't even wanna do that anymore. I haven't been to a game since 11-12 playoffs. It's just too expensive for what you're getting. Not worth it, whatsoever. Rather watch on tv.

i might be remembering incorrectly...but a year or so again when the story came out about messier being part of this project, people immediately said the rangers should move the pack there...

but i remember the issue being the seating capacity not being large enough

ok it would have 5000 seats and the average AHL attendance is 4899.

hartford, bridgeport and albany are all below that...but hershey draws 9K so you are really limiting yourself if you think the team would be more successful than their current market...not leaving much room for growth.

The same people who go to Yankee Stadium for a baseball game, especially at night. The 4 train runs adjacent to the proposed rink facility, similar to Yankee Stadium. It's just 8 more stops north of 161st Street.

In a 5k arena, it would be better to host an ECHL team. It would also boost the attention the ECHL is getting. And a lot of us would be willing to go see St. Croix, Noreau, Stajcer, etc if they were nearby.

Reportedly stated that on the radio show:

http://snyrangersblog.com/2013-14/recap-mark-messier-on-the-rangers-and-chris-kreider/#more-118680

I think Sound Tigers of Bridgeport and Albany Devils will compete with Wolfpack as it should become a prime location.

I'm sure he wants to coach it...

both would be awesome. would love Mess to get some real experience. The coaching bit also makes a lot of sense too because it makes sense he wants to base himself in NY, he has no desire to go to a tiny suburb in Ontario or some small town minor league city to work so a job in the Bronx? perfect match. I bet his adviser role with EDM only requires him to go out there once in a while and he can fulfill the rest of his duties from NYC.

I am sure the atmosphere would be awsome though.

5k in a 5k arena gives you a lot better atmosphere than any bigger arena I've been too...

I grew up in that area and it would be great to go to a game there. I lived in Kingsbridge. Grandparents on The Grand Concourse. No problems.

Depending on time of year you might be able to squeeze in games at both venues on the same day.

This would be tremendous. unfortunately, I bet it'd be the sound tigers moving. still a no brainer either way. the city needs more hockey. just not the ****ing devils, please.

would love this. my dads friend sells christmas trees at that corner in december. ive been there a lot. its not THAT bad.
