Meritocracy for announcers too

Subban is fine but guy is a massive homer. Hard to take the analysis seriously.

PK is absolutely horrendous and if he does have a point, it’s lost in his fake banter or screaming. Agreed on meritocracy in broadcasting though. If we think hockey coaches are all retreads just look at these broadcasting booths. This also applies to the “pros” like Buccigross or Levy, that think the narrative is more interesting than the actual game. If there is any attrition, these networks inevitably shoehorn in as many women as humanly possible to replace them, competency be damned. I’ll gladly be labeled a misogynist if it means Cassie Campbell and Leah Hextall aren’t on the feed.

It it were a meritocracy, Joe Beninati would be doing all the biggest games.

Personality-wise, PK is fine, but he was a far better player than he is at analysis of players. Raging homerism is an understatement.

Subban is fantastic? I have a hard time listening to him because of how bad his insights almost always are. Just look at his first round predictions. How is it even possible to go 2-6? Toronto and Washington basically had a bye, and he somehow predicted both wrong

Now look at who those teams were and their relation to PK Subban and you’ll have your answer

The bad part about the women thing is there are actually knowledgeable women with easy to listen to voices that don't get the push those two do. I mean Jen Botterill, Hillary Knight, AJ Melzco to name a few. Speaking of being in over ones head. Emily Caplan is a wonderful writer and seems very hockey knowledgeable, however he interview style which comes off as fake enthusiasm (or at least way over the top) is annoying as hell.

PK brings good energy. Not so sure about his insight into the game, however.

I think he prioritizes sizzle over substance and there's not alot of guys thay can pull that off IMO.

These dudes are not paid to analyze, especially the intermission studio guys. They’re paid to hype. Being insightful or accurate is secondary if not tertiary to what they are there to do

I can think of almost none who are on the right side of neutral. Forslund, super small sample size but Pronger has been ok so far
