Martin played really well and robbed us of a couple but the fact is that his first shutout of his career is tainted by a terrible call, nobody but sens fans will likely remember it that way mind you.

I thought after the first we were ok against a really strong team. We created some turnovers and got some quality chances, refs did everything they could to squash any momentum we could muster up.
Do you think they intentionally did this? That's quite an accusation

I think through shear incompetence ( perhaps driven from the game being so fast) they altered the outcome. Impacted is probably a better word. Altered implies changed which implies we would have won.

I think that's a 1-1 game entering the third

Personally I don't really care but all 4 of them should be fired if this league has any integrity.

If there was an all time list for worst refereeing performance by a unit this would be the top entry or near the top.

They cannot be allowed to work again.

There are bad calls. There are egregiously bad calls. But 45 straight minutes of egregiously bad calls? That should not be accepted in any league that calls itself professional.

Well, I'm not sure their terrible calls were intentional but I do know they turned what could have been a decent game into an embarrassment

Ya, incompetence is probably the answer, some of our calls weren't great either, but they saved their best terrible calls for us it seems.

Hard to blame incompetence when they missed a boatload of interference and picks on the Canes side of things. Incompetence usually goes both ways. The only time we got a bit of an easy call was the last few minutes of the game, when it was already out of reach.

Carolina definitely outplayed us for maybe the 1st half of the game.. They were on we were off.
It was 1-0;

Stutzle tied it and a garbage call on a play that happens 10 times a game negates the goal and puts the Canes on the PP.
Later in the period Pinto gets called for a phantom slash .. down 1 man
Killing the penalty the refs blew a tmm call watching 2 men come out one door and one man go in, They missed the other door where a Sen went off
Down 2 men 2-0;
Down 1 man from the shit tmm call to start the 3rd; Carolina makes it 3-0

The refs took us right out of this game.

I have a lot of respect for Carolina and the way they played but

Did they show that on a replay somewhere?

I didn't see that

It was on the pk. The pk never should have happened because the Pinto call was nonsense

i said that with like 3 mins left in the game so not really a prediction, more a statement of exasperated frustration tbh
Honorable to admit that, but kudos in this form are rare enough that you should perhaps take 'em where you get 'em! Cheers!

They showed it right after it happened, The guy coming off I think was G and he was right on the boards waiting for 2 men to come on, the other Sen had already gone off in the other door; The replay showed it and
You can clearly count 4 Sens on the ice...
They blew it;

We needed three goals against a strong defensive team, no issues with pulling the goalie when we did.

Gregor vs Cousins makes zero difference in that game, though I agree I'd go that way.
Better chance to tie it with a goalie in the net than without. Even if it’s 1% better.

Don’t pull the goalie. It’s a guaranteed loss 95% of the time.

And Gregor instead of cousins does make a difference. One less penalty and more speed, intelligence, defensive awareness

Wow, I didn't see the 2nd door exit... If so, that alters my perspective of the TMM call which I initially thought was correct. (Doesn't make up for the crap phantom calls!). I thought there was one off and 2 on, with the changing (coming off player) being the far (40-50 feet away) opposite side player. Key to point out the Sens did not have possession, or touch the puck so how far from the bench door matters. Will have to look at that one again.

If you have it post it

I don't think there was a late player going off

There was definitely a forward way behind the play on the change when the two Sens players got on.

Maybe you're right and a forward + defenseman changed. But my understanding is the late forward deep in the Carolina end signaled for someone to get on and then took another 2-4 seconds to get off.

But even if my memory is right it's one of those calls that's 50/50 in a typical NHL game and after the colossal f***up on the Pinto penalty I can't believe they called that one. Especially because neither player who hopped on had touched the puck or a Carolina player or even altered the path of any Carolina player.

Seemed to be two sets of standards for the two teams tonight. One much more lax for Carolina, one much more strict for Ottawa.

After a slow start and 1st period, we were in that game. We should have had a shot at pts in this one.

Absolute ridiculously f***ery to take that goal off the board, and then laid us out with the next two penalties.

I saw one go off one door and one off the other door and you could only see 4 sens on the ice... I mean I guess I could be mistaken but I want to see a replay because I think I saw it right. Its possible that there was someone way late because he was not on the screen on the replay I saw

Ottawa, Buffalo, Detroit, Boston...all lost... It will be a dogfight for a wildcard spot all season with the Isles & Philly firmly in the mix now too.
