Two totally different values of players for the flyers side.

Yeah. Pretty wild fluctuation in the "value" of this proposal depending on which guy we're talking about. Even with his big contract, Tippett has gotta be worth a ton more than Brink.


Tippett i'd almost look at as a straight across 1-for-1 deal for Mercer. Only reason that wouldn't work is the cap hit and how New Jersey have things allocated already.

Brink i'd look at as more like a "throw-in" roster backfill piece where the 1st becomes the centerpiece. So there's a pretty big gulf there.

Interesting. I think wiuth going to a team more set on speed, he'd throve and hot on more. He is a bit overpriced though I see the point.

I don’t think he’s going to thrive, I’m also very negative about Tippett. I think the contract is a major mistake.

I think Tippett is a little bit overpaid and he obviously didn't have a great season...but the combination of size+speed+shot and the way that allows him to create a lot of his own goals is a skillset worth paying for.

There is something to be said for Brink, in that i think he's got a skillset that is probably easier to mesh with a potential quality Top-6 Center. It's a lot more "plug 'n play" than Tippett's kind of awkward individualistic style. But he's also small and i don't think the offensive ceiling is that high with him, to outweigh what Tippett can bring in terms of producing even without a top notch Center...while also bringing size and speed to a lineup (in the same package).

I don’t hate Tippett. We just need a center and thought Mercer may be a good buy low who still has 2C upside in maybe a different environment

Think in a 2-3 years Tippett’s contract won’t seem that bad at all. We may very well be entering a period where 2nd line guys get 7-10 million a year

I wouldn't completely dismiss it, but it'd be a tandem move with something else like the Marino trade last year.

I think they should hold on to him unless he's part of a bigger deal. Unless of course someone offers something that can't be refused.
