I wouldn’t do this deal from the Flyers POV.
Dawson Mercer really isn’t that much better than Bobby Brink or Owen Tippett combined with the 31st or 32nd pick in the 1st round.
The selling point would be that Dawson can play as a center only problem with that premise is that he isn’t really all that good at C, as he’s suited more for the wing.
Dawson’s ice time went up but responsibilities overloaded him down the middle in the top 6 roll when Jack Hughes went down.

I think Tippett and the late 1st and the devils would do this instantly. They would probably do it for Tippett straight up.

I think both teams would prefer to not make such a trade to not betting risk to show how one or another player will throw against them.

The goal is to get a 3C most likely so if Kevin Hayes and/or retention is a part of the deal it wouldn’t shock me, but I’d be unhappy and would prefer just continuing to bet on Mercer and getting him to focus full time this offseason on playing C.
I don't love the Tippett contract, but I could see Fitz loving Tippett so I wouldn't be mad if they did it.
I don't think Brink would be a guy that Fitz fancies.
He'd probably do very well in Jersey
The contract is a lil rich. Problem is I'm not sure we should give up on Mercer.

The Devils have traded with the Flyers only 3 times since they relocated from Colorado to NJ. The rivalry has really cooled down the last decade so I dont expect trading with them to be some taboo thing anymore. The deal doesnt really make sense for the Flyers or Devils.
Tippett is entering the 2nd year of his 8 year deal. Why would the Flyers want to ship him out already ? They desperate for a center ? Mercer is better as a wing and is looking to be more of a 3rd liner than a 2nd line wing like we hoped he would be...

Any center would be an improvement on the Flyers but is it really worth it to get a marginal improvement? It would probably pay dividends to just ride through next season with a good chance of a top 5 pick
Seems like a lot for a guy coming off 36 pts in his 4th NHL season. Don't get what Flyers fans have against Tippett. At least he can skate and score a goal. 6 million bucks big deal who cares
Mercer has to take a step from promising young player to effective NHL center to be worth this kind of return. I like the kid and still believe he could but not at all a sure thing from what I've seen. Competent 3rd liner doesn't mean all that much these days.

Tippett can skate and can score, but... Yeah, that but makes Flyers fans so eager to trade him. And that but isn't his salary. Or rather not just salary.
On the other hand it looks like Mercer isn't gamebreaking talent either.
A very late 1st, best to think of it as a 2nd, isn't worth that much. You hope to get a roster player in 4-5 years, but often don't get one at all.
