Might as well start a thread for the week. Instead of having it in the prospects thread..or out of town....

Just an incredible Bibeau show. Toronto might have a good on in their ranks. Big Mac was okay when he played. Nothing earth shattering to say the least though. And Mantha was Mantha.

Mac wasn't dominant by any means but had some good shifts. Gotta take into consideration he played the Sille line a bunch of times but still.

Val d'Or came as expected. Underdog team of the tournament but they have the gamebreakers to win it all. Solid goaltending and timely goals (or goal). Two-day break and get ready for the next 2 games.

I don't remember seeing such a goalie performance in a Memorial Cup. Just wow.

I counted one shift for him in the third. Ridiculous.

Seems London for all their hype over the last three years just can't get it done.
They get a ton of media coverage and always disappoint.
Domi Horvat the Ruperts all over-rated.
I know they had a month off but...

I don't know... They did almost everything right tonight. Obviously they need to be less fancy offensively, but if they keep dominating like this, opponent goalies will have to steal games every night.

Still too early...but the London Knights might become the Buffalo Bills of the CHL....so many visits to the big show....so few results....

Well the timing was off obviously. If they can get it back, they will be dangerous. But it's tough in a tournament ilke that....Val D'Or was the least dangerous opponent. While they might face weaker goalies...they will face better overall teams from now on.

I can't really comment on the other teams since I haven't seen them play.

On paper, Guelph looks like the strongest team, followed by London. Val-D'or's is not the sexiest team that's for sure, but is Edmonton really much better than them?

I'm not sure Val-D'or can play much worse than they did tonight, outside of Bibeau who was outstanding, obviously;)

Didn't they beat Crosby?

edit: yeah and Prust was on that team.

Well on the flip side Val Dor was playing a game 8 they were toast for most of that game.

Yes they did in 2005. Just talking that if they don't win this year, it would be the 3rd year in a row without a win and frankly, they were expected to win at least 1 time during that stretch. So yes..not exactly Bills material....but let just say on that stretch, mini-Bills material...I mean in the CHL sometimes, you have teams you know that are build to become mini-dynasty, and London was one of them lately. It has to mean 1 Mem Cup. Just like Windsor prevailed in due time. Just like Vancouver did at least 1 time. Or Kelowna. Were all seen as favorites and were seen as possible repeat champions. All of them ended up with at least 1 Mem Cup. 2 for Windsor. London being 0 on 3 would be seen as a major disspointment.

Last team who had a month off was Shawinigan.

They lost their first and their third game and had to go in tie-breaker.

I wouldn't write London off yet. Sure a lot of shots weren't that dangerous but they still showed a lot of good things tonight. Also, London didn't come in as the favorite in either of the previous two Memorial Cups. Let's say they had/ve a 20-25% chances of winning a single tournament (based on 4 teams participating in the event). It still wouldn't be improbable to not win again this year. So, even if they don't win, I wouldn't consider them as "chokers". They still have one heck of a program there and a bunch of good players on that team.

I would never use that choking word for kids. I mean, we're not talking about the same groups and all. Yet, just saying that for London itself, to have a possibility of 3 shots at it and not have 1....it will be a big dissapointement. But true..this one isn't done for sure. They could clearly comeback from this. No doubt.

I had London as my favourite to win in 2012. And especially WAY MORE when we knew they'd be facing Shawinigan in the finals...

Can only imagine someone from London missing an open net wide right to win the Memorial Cup

...

as for 2012, it was a very close tournament. Much like this year. I thought Saint John was the favorite to be honest but not by a whole lot. All 4 teams were pretty close to one another. Last year both Halifax and Portland were clearly ahead of the other 2.
