While funny to watch, that wasn’t a very smart move by the cop. Runs blindly around his cruiser with zero awareness of what the suspect is doing on the other side — thankfully he was just reaching down to steady the bike and not, say, pull out a knife. Cop could have ended up in a real bad situation just to have his little hero moment.

I think the cop was well aware that he wasn't reaching for anything, since his hands were both still clearly visible. The pattern from previous box in attempts showed the guy would try to steady his bike, get himself room, then drive off again. He saw him fiddling with bike position, so took advantage of the time it would take to maneuver such a large bike.

Around 15:40 you get a good look at what the cop could see through the back window. Anything happening while the cop was opening his door and running around the car was an unknown. Did the guy have a weapon? Unknown. All he knows is this guy is a runner, and he’s reaching downward out of view.

When cops die in situations like that one, it’s often because they don’t recognize a reach for a weapon. The running tackle move has comic value but it was brainless.

This is an actual exchange between West and a journalist from the Independent (easy to Google if you want to see the full interview)

“I got banned from Aspen," West says.

"Why?"

"Well, you know, we'd been partying and..."

"And?"

A pause.

"Liquor?"

"Yes."

"Women?

"Yes."

"Police?"

"Yes."

All this was some years ago, West recalls.

"I was escorted out of town and advised it would be unwise to return. About 15 years later, I had a letter from the Aspen authorities saying it would be OK to come back - to visit."
