My mother-in-law lives in Frederick County MD, half an hour from Gettysburg and half an hour from Antietam. I've spent my Black Friday at one or the other for going on twenty years.

That sounds like a wonderful way to spend Black Friday. Much better than going to Best Buy to get a 'great' deal on subpar electronics.

Haven't visited Antietam. Gettysburg I've hit a few times back when I dated my ex up in the Harrisburg area. At least once a year I'd make the stop on the way back to either Morgantown or Raleigh

They do a luminary drive around Antietam once a year. They light 23,000+ candles, one for every soldier who died as a result of that battle. It is sobering.

Not to be that guy, but there 'only' around 3500 deaths. The 23,000 include the men who were wounded or missing.


Regardless, it's a huge number, especially considering it was one day worth of fighting. I may have to make time to visit when they do that next year.
