Media needs to give Stolarz a break

He has one more bad game left before woll gets in the lineup he hasn’t really been good as the series has gone on

Agreed.

In fact I'll say that if game 5 is a loss, even if Stolarz plays well, it's probably time to consider starting Woll just to manage the workload. The Leafs are fortunate to have 2 goalies that can give quality starts. Stolarz is playing every other day right now, 3 straight went to overtime. That's a ton of work for a goalie.

Giving Woll a start might be a good idea to be sure Stolarz isn't totally worn down by round 2.

Since Saturday's loss, all I have been reading online and all morning today on the Fan590 they been speaking of how Stolarz could be replaced by Woll for Tuesday's game. I believe that media really needs to give Stolarz replacement talk a break and a completed halt.

We are up 3 games to 1 because of him. We only took that game on Saturday to overtime and almost to a second overtime because of him. Did he let a soft goal in for the winner? Yes. Was he fully screened as Ullmark was on Benoit's winner? Yes. Does he deserved to be benched because of it? No.

Media has a tendency to make a whole lot of something out of nothing. This is Toronto's media problem from the beginning of time. If it wasn't running Larry Murphy out of town, making more of the Muskoka clan during the Sundin era, causing more issues then it needed to be with the whole Marner/Babcock fiasco, or the Matthews going to Arizona. Ultimately, bringing this crap up at a time where we need our team focused and more importantly our most important player Stolarz focused is plain stupid.

Media needs to stop talking crap and focus on the positives this team has show so far. Want to know why we lost game 4. Not Stolarz, the inability to score on a 4 minute penalty in overtime. The game was there for the taking, and what if Tavares wasnt injured just prior? Do we win the game? Maybe that should be topic of discussion. How the Leafs PP stinks without Tavares in it and Marner running the point instead of Reilly with those players?

Toronto media is a joke, and sometime some people just need to focus on the issue(s) rather then raising phantom ones when this team does need that bad hype at a specific time.
Biggest hockey market on the planet, during playoffs, extra day off between games so nothing new to talk about...you want them to not be Toronto media?

I think everyone is blowing the media into a bigger thing. It’s the playoffs what do you want them to talk about? People are having discussions just like why are doing.

Yeah I hate the media surrounding this team. They always want to push the negative because it gives them clicks. Like that obnoxious loser Dangle. They had a video up the next day discussing whether this is the start to another choke job.

Of course, we are all thinking it, but they just can’t wait to get that negativity out there and build their “brand” further. Idiot age of social media

75% of our media AND fans (sorry) - have NO idea what they are watching.

Most I assume are casual fans who don't watch but just say they are a die hard fan and talk about just one before they die and love this time of year as they get to cosplay as huge fans and over react and shit on the team.

The rest have no interest in seriously understanding the game (that is fine) and just care about the goals and that is the end for them.

Then there are hardcore fans who understands systems and what they are watching. These are the fans not panicking at all right now.

A media company needs something for people to click on. It’s impossible to regurgitate the same talking points about a game that was played 3 days ago. They need clicks/ad revenue. So how do they get more clicks?? They create narratives, they create storylines, they get the fans emotions in an uproar with stupid opinions and dumb answers to dumb questions.

It’s the same reason why the media lays off the Leafs when they’re winning because winning isn’t click bait, it’s boring, it can be the same repetitive talking points. When the team loses that’s when the storylines can be built from

Basically this.

Agreed, not on not panicking right now.

Ok. You've casually placed me in the "No idea" category. What are we watching?
I don’t know you specifically. You can put yourself in which ever box you like.

I do know as a competitive hockey coach, talking to some Leafs fans is very painful.
I also vent every now and then, but the post game 5 comments were WILD.

Stolarz and Woll are why the Leafs won the division and a big reason they are up 3-1.

He's been fine even spectacular at times. Defense is a team commitment, the goalie is just the last wall of that defense.

To understand a team sport with such nuance as hockey one has to watch each shift of the game, each players decisions and make an assessment based on the totality of these decisions and outcomes. The stats sheet doesn't always give all of the details of how a game went.

I guess we know why he is a back up now. But the fans did say don't run this core back. There will be a lot of empty seats next year.

When you see the media do shit like this, you remember why few players ever want to stay here...

What a pathetic load of shite. People who think that Toronto media and fans are somehow unique and are a reason players don't want to play here are idiots. Media and fans are far worse in cities like New York, Philly, etc. to say nothing of media and fans for soccer in places like Europe and South America.

This Toronto is somehow unique idiocy is part and parcel of the belief that Toronto is oh so special, and is the centre of the universe. It isn't, it is nothing more than a shitty little provincial backwater and people from Toronto desperately need to get over themselves.

This is all silly. Stolarz will play game 5, as he should, and the Leafs will win. People just trying to manufacture drama where none exists.
Unfortunately another prediction gone wrong.

I think leafs play Woll game 6 and he wins and he keeps the net until (fingers crossed) game 2/3 of ECF if we make it and beat the panthers

We will beed a 2017 Fluery/Murray type combo to win

The Tkachuk muffin in game 3.
All three goals in game 4.
The Chabot goal in game 5.
While Ullmark looks like he's settling in, Stolarz is looking leaky.

When the Panthers came back and beat the Bruins in 2023, a key factor in that series was Boston waiting too long to move off Ullmark towards Swayman.

The Leafs won't go to Woll in game 6, but they absolutely should

this is said like someone who has only ever watched the game.

You can never blame a goalie for a top shelf goal on a point shot that he couldnt see, even with his size.
the 2 on 1 was perfectly executed, unstoppable unless it was wiffed on (it wasnt)
Stolarz made more than a few point blank saves, Ulmark didnt have to, the Leafs didnt have many decent looks, and all their shots were 'off'
Ulmark had zero difficult saves last game, and was 'beat' a few times, but, the Leafs didnt put the puck in the net.
Leafs should not consider making a goalie change

the only play Stolarz looked poor on was that post shot he 'didnt see' that ran the red line

/edit
the Tkchuch shot, he should have had, but, didnt matter.
none of the goals in game 4 were faultable, PP cross net one-timer, shorthanded breakaway, a deflected shot that went to an open guy at the side of the net, and another screened point shot (these are the most dangerous and common in the playoffs, if they make it through and hit the net, they are almost always a goal vs every goalie)
