A late bloomer who was able to come up and string together some good games and make us think he was more than he was. But over time, the NHL exposes all and Holl was eventually exposed as not very good.

McMann, outside of a high shooting% spree last season, hasn't really shown he deserves to be an every day NHL player. He started the season a healthy scratch which drew some ire from fans, but I think it is was the right move.

What does he do besides skate really fast with the puck and be on the ice for the odd boneheaded play?

He can finish when he plays with better players. Not afraid to go to the net, go in the corners to dig pucks out, etc.

He was working well with Nylander as he can he somewhat keep up with him.

Domi hasn't been all that great the past 4 or 5 games but he should be able to get the puck to McMann in open space

He might be... but Justin Holl was a fine defencemen for us making $2m. It's the position that "you'd like to get more out of", but "more costs more $" and you can probably spend that money a little better elsewhere.

Zach Hyman was 2 full years of "I work really hard" putting up 10 and 15 goals.... even that 3rd year where he had 21 goals... let us not forget that only 15 of those were scored with a goalie on the ice.

At the end of the day, the guy makes $1.35m. At that price, he should be on your 3rd or 4th line, with occasional spot duty in a top 6 for somebody that's hurt.

Similar to Justin Holl, he should have been a #5 defenceman, but got used in the top 4 prettty consistently because we were so top heavy.

This team has quite a few fillers. Mcmann is probably the best of the bunch but he’s definitely more of third liner. Holmberg and Benoit are also very evidently sticking out for the wrong reasons this year.

McMann and Holmberg have the two worst xGF% for forwards on the team (38% and 42%) respectively. The difference is McMann has been on for 9GF and 4GA while Holmberg has been on for 1GF and 4GA. McMann had a few good plays with Nylander then got quiet and replaced by Pacioretty while Holmberg... honestly I couldn't tell you anything about what he does well. He gets put out to PK 3-on-5 sometimes I guess.

McMann is looking like a useful bottom 6 player. Good size, uses his body, good shot. Not sure what I’m missing.

He has 18 goals and 28 points in his last 68 games.

McMann has the IQ to work with better players and, unlike Robertson, actually gets hot and goes on a scoring streak every once in a while. He plays hard and has plenty of jam to his game. He costs practically nothing.

I know that OP is a hot take merchant, but this is a head shaker. McMann has been one of our best and most consistent (scoring or not) bottom sixers since he cemented himself on the roster. This is a guy you give more minutes and opportunities to in case you've got a Mason Marchment type player on your hands, rather than labelling him a waste of roster space after he goes cold for 6 games.

I thought McMann was gonna be hot garbage with a stinky diaper on top.

Turns out he's actually pretty good. Gotta give this guy his well deserved credit. He managed to crack the lineup of a cup contending team loaded with wingers.

I'm not sure what more anyone could expect for $1.35M.

That's the same as Reaves earns. I know who I would rather have on the team. Hint: it's not Reaves.

When it comes to these bottom of the roster chumps it's not all about goals and points.

That was the failed Dubas vision of four scoring lines. We all saw how well that turned out. In a cap world it's all about getting the most bang for your buck.

In which case McMann earns his pay on a team with at least four players who are each overpaid by more than what he earns total.
