Confirmed with Link: McLeod signed for 3 years

Wait, what? Really?
Pretty much the only two moves I've liked since they came in was the Tanguay trade and signing Iggy.

Most of them aren't "meh" moves either, they freakin suck and it's embarrassing. Do they have any front office expirence what so ever?

So despite Cody basically getting worse and worse his AAV goes up and up.

I would want his agent if I'd be a 4th liner/extra forward.

Too much.

There is just no point what so ever. What is wrong with having a fringe NHL player on a 1 year deal playing for a new contract? Same goes for Stuart (but wouldnt call him fringe NHL player). Why does Roy want every depth player on multi year deals?

Personally, I hate this. I mean absolutely abhor it. I have always respected McLeod for the grit and veteran presence, but the guy has been losing a step each year recently.

Unfortunately, all one can do is wish for the best, so here's to hoping I'm horribly wrong about his on ice abilities. As for behind the scenes, I hope he continues to be a leader and professional to instill those values in the young guys (I can see that being true). Time to earn that contract Cody!

His role on the team has never been in question, going to be weird having him as a alternate captain for 5 years though.

A little on the high side but an okay deal.

But I don't get why we have to sign him to a longterm contract now?
ROR and to a lesser extent Ginner were the two lads that we desperately needed to get under contract longterm. And those two guys got less term than McLeod and Stuart (if you count his remaining year).

Oh Well. I like Cody. So I am happy for him even if it is not that great for the Avs.

Every player's AAV is going up... the cap is increasing which inflates salaries.

Cody McLeod extension with Avs: $1.5 M in year 1 and $1.25 M in years 2-3

$1.33 AAV. Is 925k the max amount that can be buried? So if this thing goes bad (which I'm expecting), well be on the hook for $400k?

Meh...not terrible in my opinion. McLeod wasn't going anywhere regardless.

Not too unhappy w/ the Stuart one either, but it does make me believe that Hejda is out of here after this year and I am a little saddened by that as I like Hejda

With the way things are going today, he may get a 3 year extension next.

So a 1.33 AAV. Not too too much, but I was rather hoping this would be the last year of McLeod and we would find an upgrade in the offseason. I am fine with him as a 4th liner and ok with him on the PK but hate him on the 3rd line or higher.

Yes, but players who get worse are not getting raises with every contract. Just look at Cleary (who I feel is the McLeod of Detroit).

I've seen you post a lot both here and on the main board about Mcleod and I feel like you don't understand how useful he is. McLeod is not a bad hockey player. He's a leader and a great PK'er. The contract is fine.

For a good 4th liner yes.
Sadly Cody hasn't been one for a few years already.

It's the 3 years that bug me mostly.
1year extension I would have been okay with, 2years and I would've been mystified, and with 3 now, yeesh.

But I mean what do I know. I wanted to bring Koby back for the 4th line last season (and still would).

And I really hope McLeod proves me wrong.
Sadly I highly doubt it, and believe he should be in the AHL already in 15-16. But he won't, both due to the contract and he is Roy's man.

I'm confident McLeod would have had a better year in 14/15 if he was fighting for a new contract rather than sitting on the security of having over 1.0M a year the next four years.

They've brought in Holden out of nowhere. They upgraded our minor and prospect depth by a ton. They've drafted pretty well (at least it seems that way). They signed Landy and Duchene to great deals well ahead of schedule. Varly's deal is also fair. Talbot for Downie worked out well imo. The Tanguay trade was a steal. They drafted Mackinnon. They signed Iggy. They brought in Foote and Allaire.

Sure there are growing pains (since, no, they don't have a ton of front office experience - although they do have some) but it's far too early to be that harsh. For all we know at this moment, Stuart, Mcleod, and Berra might all work out to be good deals when we look back at them.

A lot of them are... old friend Cody McCormick is an example of that. There are examples both ways.

I would say that McLeod is roughly the same player as he was 2-3 years ago, and if anything better. Adding PK abilities makes him a better, more rounded player for the 4th line. He isn't and never should be a 3rd line player, but he isn't being paid like one either.

I'm surprised a lot of you are praising his PK ability.
I think he was the worst of the bunch that we used regularly (Cliche, Talbot, ROR, Mitchell and him).
He lost his assignment quite often and went running too wildly into situations forcing other players out of their positions to cover his mistakes => leaving space open for easy PP goals.

Instead of listing everything I've disliked. I can just say what I disagree with.

I like Holden, decent FA signing, OK extension. Nothing great. I dont think they have upgraded our prospect pool since I dont like the prospects they have signed and I dont like how they have traded draft picks for useless return. I dont like how they have drafted, HATE their focus on size. Wake up Roy, the 90's have passed.

Can we really credit them for getting MacKinnon? I could have selected him first overall too. The Tanguay trade was great cause we got rid off Jones contract. I like Talbot, one of my fav bottom six players in the NHL, but Downie had a lot more value at the time.
