Reimer is more proven than Bernier. Bernier has higher potential but as of right now Reimer is the better keeper
I dont think his cost will be that much. Goalies, in particular non-proven goalies, dont typically have big price tags.
To be fair, he could be the next Marty Brodeur and people would still say that he sucks if he were a Leaf.Bernier is overrated. He'd never be seen so glowingly if he was a Leafs prospect.
Tampa Bay Lightning traded Sebastien Caron, two 2012 second-round draft picks and a 2013 third-round draft pick to the Nashville Predators for Anders Lindback, Kyle Wilson and a 2012 seventh-round draft pick.
Bernier could cost a similar amount. Would people be willing to pay that?
I don't think Bernier solves any goaltending questions for this team. He'd just be another goalie who is all potential. Isn't that the issue currently? Could he be good? Sure. So could Reimer. There's just too many question marks to rest my hat on someone like Bernier and say 'we've solved the goaltending issue'.
And why should he cost more than someone as equally unproven in Anders Lindback? Because he was a 1st round pick in 2006? Maybe I'm not seeing something someone else is. Not saying he doesn't have talent, but I just don't think it's the best fit for the stability this team needs.
Bernier's stats: 48GP - 2.50 GAA, 0.910 sv%
Lindback stats: 38GP - 2.53 GAA, 0.914 sv%
Riemer stats: 71GP - 2.83 GAA, 0.911 sv%
So why are we preparing to give multiple pieces for him again? Sure, acquire him if he's cheap - but if it's too expensive I'd just rather roll with Reimer and Scrivens and hope one runs with it.
The issue with this team is goaltending talent, but it's also experience in net. Someone who can instill confidence in the group infront of him.

I wouldnt give a single pick from this years draft, too deep/too much potential.
how about, Macarthur+Scrivens for Bernier+LA first?
then we can package that first to move up a place or two and grab an all-star.
In fairness Bernier showed huge promise in the AHL. He's also been relatively steady in the NHL, but hasn't been given the chance that Reimer has.
Reimer's stats are misleading, one crazy hot start for a month, followed by average play, then a terrible year last year.
I do agree don't get me wrong, Bernier is just as unproven, but I'd put more stock into Bernier becoming a successful starter than Reimer just from what I've seen.
I'm not saying he doesn't have more potential than Reimer. But is it worth giving up an arm and a leg to find out? Not for this fan. I'd much rather gamble on the two we have. We've gambled in the past too often just to see those players flop here.
Again, it comes down to price. But judging by some of the names thrown around in this thread..I'm not willing to pay the price.
I also like this talk because it calls Vancouver's bluff.
I look to our own recent history to know that's not true.
