Player Discussion McDavid

I'm starting to be less certain he'll stick around if they lose. Odds of him getting back here again are tiny and he's not getting any younger, I wouldn't begrudge him the change to chase a ring somewhere else at this point. He's given this team his best years and they gave him f*ck all for almost a decade.
Leaving would be chickenshit on his part. Getting his shot back to his 64 goal season levels and leaving $ on the table to try and ensure that we win is the right thing to do.

It took what, nine years for him to get this far? And it doesn’t seem like he’s going to win it all here. If he wants to leave I wouldn’t like it but I also wouldn’t blame him.

Dallas will only get worse now that they have to trade Robertson (the only threat we faced) and will downgrade in coaches.

Los Angeles will only get worse with Ken Holland at the helm and their much-older stars getting even older.

We totally dominated Vegas. They're done.

Colorado doesn't look much better.

The West is, and will remain, ours.

Why doesn't it seem like he can't win here? Roster changes can be made and players can continue to improve. If he doesn't win it this season it doesn't mean that he'll never get back to the SCF here.

Because they’re locked into this core. Unless some major shifts are made the defense is going to basically be the same next year along with the goaltending.

This team isn’t Florida. I don’t think they’re capable of making it back here next year.

Well we are down Hyman, have a hobbled Ekholm and Draisiatl and we will find out if Connor is hurt or just shitting the bed at the end of this series. We could upgrade in net and swap out sone of our depth guys for other players that are better skaters and more physical. That and hopefully find some young blood to come in here and help give us a few new dynamics to our team. Savoie, O'Reilly, maybe Philp at 4C, etc.

I don’t think he’s hurt. He’s been too pass happy for too long. It’s great that he puts up assists but players will back off and cover others if he’s not going to be a scoring threat.

A lot has to go right in order for a team to get this far. If they can’t win with this team it’s not like Nurses contract is going to magically vanish and a true starting goalie is going to fall out of the sky.

If he's not hurt then his hockey IQ is garbage. I don't think that is the case.

If McD tells the Oiler's he won't re-sign, would you think the best option is to trade him or to keep him as a rental for one more run at the cup? The Jet's did the latter with Ehlers, although it's unknown if he told management if he wants to stay or go.
Nope, trade him to Rangers for J.T. Miller, Lafrennier & K.A. Miller and picks!

His shot from that 64 goal campaign is still there... we saw it in game 3 against Dallas at the end of the 2nd when he restored our 2 goal lead. Lightning quick, accurate release.

Rarely see him even consider shots like that anymore, regardless of the time or space he's afforded.

It's probably because shooting with velocity hurts him somehow. That or he's stubborn af.

Hmmm...McDavid isn't going anywhere imo, we'll be at ease in less than 4 weeks. The concern shouldn't be about his extension, which will be the primary story the entire summer (leafs fans/media are going to be loud, very loud), it's about Connor McDavid willing his team to a championship.

We know his character and he knows what he is to the city/franchise. He's not going ditch his German brother, and the team he spent a decade building through failure and suffering. Now that it's finally peaking, back to back finals, he'll just leave his career's work just to go to that clownfest called the Maple Leafs? That would be completely out of his character, and could potentially derail his career.

I'm so glad the extension period begins in less than 3 weeks (free agency). We'll get our answer almost immediately after the playoffs are over.

We didn't lose yet fellas, until that '4' is next to franchise, it's still anyone's game. I honestly, truly believe McDavid is going to be The Connor McDavid in the last 2 games of the season.

Something that we also probably have to cope with is that as competition level increases, it becomes less and less likely that McDavid is going to have on of his 4-5 point games. Like in games like a four nations final, or a Cup final, he's playing against the very best players in the world pretty much every shift. He needs a bit of puck luck to have those huge nights we're accustomed too. He's made some highlight reel plays this series that just haven't converted, he needs to make good on those chances if we have any hope of winning.
