He also missed a bunch of games this season and played injured parts of last season. Still scored 130 points last year.I think McDavid has looked pretty darn spectacular for parts of this season.
Take the Cup Heartbreak and Hangover portion of the season out, and that injury out and he’s probably right there with MacK and Drai at the top of the League again.
Going pointless in back to back games, with a new look line, and a frankly a bit of bad puck luck, shouldn’t sound the alarm bells.
That said, we’ve discussed his shooting for a long while now and it’s an issue that seems to persist. The sniping aspect of his game is still missing from his Rocket year. I still think part of it are team defences and goalies scouting that aspect of his game. His bread and butter during the rocket season was speeding in and stopping up, to surprise with a wrister through a D-man’s feet catching goalies off guard. I think teams know to expect that now from him. And then repeated fails in pulling off that shot after it has been scouted, has lowered his confidence in using it and confidence in executing that shot.
To my knowledge, it’s never been really confirmed he’s dealing with a wrist issue or something upper body that could be affecting his shooting. That said, his max top speed shot from his rocket year to the subsequent years has lowered. But since it’s just a max shot reading and not an average, I don’t know how much can be read into that.
Yeh i know. Mentioned in my post. “Take the injury” out and he’s right up there with Mack.He also missed a bunch of games this season and played injured parts of last season. Still scored 130 points last year.
Hyman scored 54 goals last year. We're nearly at the halfway point this year and he has 13..Not really. They are doing better than last year.
Point is, it’s a team game.
Was still one of the top players in the league last season and then won the conn smythe in a losing effort. Still very clearly the best player on the planet. Being only 4th in points per game half way through this season doesn’t put that into question imo.
Desiring more from the literally best is ridiculous to me. We could stack him with drai 24 minutes a game and he would blow the NHL away in points again. Clearly that’s not his goal. It's possible to be the best player on the planet (he is) while still leaving something to be desired with his play. He's not above measured criticism. It's pretty apparent that he's playing with quite a bit less offensive assertion as he used to. In the 64 goal year he had one solitary game without a shot. Last year he only had 2 games without. This year he already has 5. Beyond that, the puck management at times has been pretty poor, and he just doesn't seem to want to drive to the net or past defenders as much any more.
Its very possible that he's easing his foot off the gas a bit more than he used to for preservation purposes, but there is enough of a sample of diminished offensive assertiveness now that its tough to dismiss.
I'm pretty sure he knows it too, which makes it more confounding. I was at the Ducks game last Friday when he was especially pass/turnover happy and it was pretty clear that he was frustrated with himself at times. There was a sequence in the 2nd where he had a big step on the defender off the rush where he had a clear lane to the net, but instead drop passed it blind and turned it over. Shook his head on the way to the bench and he slammed his stick. He's in a bit of a funk executing, but it will come around. I compare it to when prime Tiger Woods would go a year not winning a major because of some momentary glitch in his game. The game is still there and it will be there when it matters, it's just out of sorts at the moment.
MacKinnon not a slouch either. At one point he was touted as a generational prospect. Took him a while to get there, but he's finally reached his peak potential.Yeh i know. Mentioned in my post. “Take the injury” out and he’s right up there with Mack.
Of course not. Even in his first season he looked like a game changer. But McDavid is still better. EN points has MacK ahead, and issues as previously mentioned are depressing McDavid's production this year.MacKinnon not a slouch either. At one point he was touted as a generational prospect. So looks like Connors wife Lauren is now opening a high end lounge of some type in Edmonton, just beginning the project. Connor is almost certainly staying.
I have said it before. We are lucky McDavid found a girl like her.Crazy. I was just walking by there and said someone needs to do something with that historical building.
That area can be a bit tough for businesses though, just down the street on the corner it seems no businesses can succeed in that spot. That said, i think Craft Beer and Sherlocke Holmes does well.
In any case, it's good news that she's investing in this town. And she's said alot of nice things about the city and the fanbase over the years. All good signs for a McDavid extension. I supported her Oilers clothing line and I will definitely get some drinks at this bar too.
They were set up by Gazdic and Hall I heard lol.I have said it before. We are lucky McDavid found a girl like her.
I was hoping Mcdavid would take a bit less money on his next contract to help keep the Oilers competitive, but he's is going to need a cap max contract to fund all his wife's business projects.
If anyone has enough cache to make it a new Hotspot it would be Edmonton hockey royalty. Happy to see her invest so much in the city. The women certainly has a good work ethic I'll give her that as well.Crazy. I was just walking by there and said someone needs to do something with that historical building.

The McDavids must really like that area. I actually sat at the table next to them at that Italian restaurant right in that area too. So they know the scene there. Hope it takes off for them.If anyone has enough cache to make it a new Hotspot it would be Edmonton hockey royalty. Happy to see her invest so much in the city.
Pretty standard for most rich guys, though Lauren doesn't strike me as an unreliable trophy wife that many wealthy guys get stuck with.Lol a few weeks ago my wife asked what she does for work if anything at all.
The simple response is she (likely) puts a blow torch to her husband's "investment" money operating her own interior design business.

Some of her recent ideas seem pretty boom or bust, and they will always have the wealth that they can just get up and leave anytime they want no matter what, but it's nice to see them investing in the community and putting down roots all the same.
Yeh all signs are pointing to OILER FOR LIFE. And when it happens I just hope I have my likes back so i can laugh-like 10 years of McDavid is going to leave comments by Flames/Leafs fans.McDavid is going nowhere. I used to be a little worried about him leaving... but after Drai extended and now hearing about all of Lauren's local business ventures and the fact that Drai is building a new house beside McDavid... yah... I'm 99.97% sure he is staying. Question though is... how much will he sign for? 16 per?

I don't know about exact location or if it is literally next to McDavid's... but it was mentioned Drai was building a new home close to ConnorThis is the first I've heard of this.
I'm assuming that's the lot with a tear down on it a few doors away that has been listed for about forever?
