McDavid surpasses Joe Thornton is career playoff points, is now 4th in playoff points amongst players with no cup

With 2 assists against the Stars Connor McDavid passed Joe Thorton in playoff points. McDavid now has 40+96=136 points in the playoffs so far. Only 3 players have put up more playoff points than that without winning the cup. Stars legend Joe Pavelski ended up with 74+69=143 points and no cup. Some guy named Brian Propp put up 64+84=148 points and no cup. And the late great Adam Oates put up 42+114=156 points without winning the cup.

Things are not looking good for McDavid right now as the hockey gods seems to favour the Stars in the 3rd round. What do you think, will Mcdavid surpass all these guys and end up number 1 on this list, or will he overcome the odds and win the cup this year?

The late great Adam Oates?

McDavid is the Conference Final for the second year in a row, and that series is far from over. I'm not emotionally involved in any of this, but I think McDavid will play on a Stanley Cup winner eventually. The Oilers are close, and are probably his best shot at a Cup winner over anyone else who would have cap space enough to sign him. He has to know that. After he wins a Cup, he might move on to another team, but I think he wins in Edmonton at some point.

Even if McDavid never wins a SC his actual playoff resume is tending extremely elite and there will be no discounting that.

I would list Ted Williams or Ernie Banks long before Donnie Baseball.
I’d say Ted Williams is the greatest player in any sport who never won a championship. If there’s someone better than Williams in baseball or any other sport who never won a championship, I’d like to know who it is.

EDIT: Ty Cobb might be in the running, as well.

It is an impressive stat, no one can deny that, same amount of assists as Lemieux, with 21
games in hand, and Lemieux is 4th all time APG in PO if i remember correctly
way behind him in goals though. Incredible to pass a legend like Joe
in almost 100 games less

edit he has actually 101 games less then Joe

Whenever the Oilers win a playoff round everybody defaults to "the team they played wasn't actually good" so that would be my bet.
Meh, no asterisks on the cup. All the arguments end if he wins it. Just show a pic of him holding the cup up every time someone tries to diminish the player he is.

Its a great achivemt to get a silver out of 32 teams, even more now then back in80s with 20ish teams

Lets have Stanley Cup gold silver and bronze!
Can you imagine the celebrations?
