So you don't think it's weird how Matthews who has on his resume a Hart Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, 2 Rocket Richard Trophies, Calder Trophy, and a 60 goal season is losing in to Bedard, however McDavid is easily getting more votes when both questions were asked exactly the same.

Besides one reply that mentions Matthews current contract, where is anyone on here comparing Matthews with McDavid?

Eichel signed his 8 year/$10 million AAV contract when he had 113 points in 142 games played at that point in his career.

Not sure where you get 578 points?
It was a typo. It should read 57 points.

I look at it as lines

1mil + McDavid + 1mil
6mil + Bedard + 6 mil

Will the difference between McDavid and Bedard be enough to be cover the difference between 2 4th line players and 2 top 6 wingers?
Then consider that McDavid will only be available for 3 seasons, while you get to make use of Bedards caphit for 3 seasons, then you get him until 26 with a high caphit.

Lot of flaws with your logic.

1. McDavid available for 3 seasons only? What team are you a fan of? Me - it's Habs. If we somehow landed McDavid today, I guarantee you he'd be here longer than 3 seasons, because we'd do whatever it takes to sign him long-term. I'd expect all teams feel that way too.

2. Why are you playing garbage minimum salary players with McDavid? Habs fan here - I'd do Caufield + Slaf maybe...granted both on ELC's today, but that changes soon. In Edmonton he plays with Drai, more than 1M$. Load up your first line, and be a bit smarter building out the rest of your forwards. If I had access to two competent 6M wingers you mention for Bedard, I'd easily play them with McDavid.

The only reasons to take Bedard is if you're one of those super confident person that he'll be a perennial ~100-120 point guy (maybe not as good as McDavid, but close), and since he's younger you have him longer. Or maybe you think McDavid is due for a steep decline soon, for some reason. But AAV$, and the thought of losing McDavid to UFA, shouldn't really be your driving factor here.

I voted McDavid

Ok? Then we can change it to

6mill-McDavid-6mill
1mill-X-1mill
=26.5 mill

vs

6mill-Bedard-6mill
6mill-X-6mill
=25 mill

What logic are you using to guarantee that the Habs could resign McDavid long term? Do you not think the Islanders did everything they could to resign Tavares? Because your reasoning is that a player is resignable if a team does everything they could to do it.

McJesus because I'm comfortable he'd re-sign in Toronto. If i'm building a team from scratch with no guarantee he re-signs, Bedard. You have him for 8 years at least. Depends entirely on what your teams current situation is.

It comes across as insecure because of the fact you made this thread specifically because there was a Matthews Vs. Bedard thread and apparently didn't like how the votes were going. Literally in the OP you stated that was the reason for the thread, not because you were actually curious about Bedard Vs. McDavid, but because you wanted to see if people who voted against your player would also vote against McDavid.

I wanted to see if Bedard would have got more votes than McDavid since he got more votes than Matthews when the question was asked the exact same way.

You don't find that odd and wonder how much of that was an anti Toronto vote?

McDavid.

This will be a landslide. He is the best player since Lemieux.

Are… are you serious? You literally made the poll in response to a Matthews vs Bedard thread. If you want an answer to why a lot of people would take Bedard over Matthews but not take Bedard over McDavid, then part of that is comparing Matthews and McDavid

There's no scenario, salary cap be damned, where you would ever take Bedard over McDavid until Bedard proves otherwise.

McDavid has somehow exceeded his lofty expectations.

Mario Lemieux will also sign with the Leafs. 4x6M is my guess

Saying how there was a Matthews or Bedard poll is not the same thing as directly comparing Matthews and McDavid.

I just wanted to see why more people would vote for Bedard over him and see if those same people would vote for Bedard over McDavid.

you should compare Matthews to Ironman/batman/superman or smt. Comparing him to a mere mortal is an insult to leafs nation

To the people saying Bedard can’t be as good or better than McDavid cause he hasn’t got his speed and hands, think about Wayne Gretzky. No 99 had very avarage speed and hands but he didn’t need to move his skates nor his stick very fast he just moved them with perfect timing and precision. Hockey IQ can trump physical skills. I’m not saying Bedard will be better than McDavid as it’s unlikely he’ll even match his level but that is something to think about.

Bedard should dominate in the NHL, but I don’t see him dominating it the way McDavid does. He doesn’t have the speed to stress defenders and blow by them.

When it’s all said and done, and you look back at both of their NHL careers, no doubt in my mind McDavid will be viewed as the better/more dominant player.

Why would that be weird. Its exactly as it should be. McDavid is on a completely different tier than Matthews.

McDavid is the best to enter the league since we were graced with Crosby, Bedard will be good but I think he will struggle

Matthews 52 Points
Mcdavid 88 points

The only thing I find weird is that you’re implying they’re interchangeable

Well Matthews has only 2 top 3 seasons while McDavid whole career has been a top 3 0laher with most of them being 1s

Bedard is expected to be closer to McDavid then matthews who hasn't dominated to the extent one who can challenge 99 should
