McDavid is excellent playoff performer - except against Barkov

I dont see how thats relevant to 2009. Which is what was being discussed. Any more great insight you care to add?

That if McJesus took some of those points he added in an 8-1 blow out…

…after the game was already out of reach…

…and put them into a game 7…

…when it actually mattered…

…we’d be talking about a champion.

Instead of making piss poor excuses blaming the team.

But then McDavid fan boys might argue that McDavid is better than Crosby instead of just being on par with him, and then Crosby fan boys would cry and whine and it would just be never ending bullshit from Crosby fanboys and McDavid fanboys whereas now it's......nevermind.

Lol what? You're basically proving my point that hockey is a team game and Pittsburgh won because of their team.

Crosby got the top defensive pairing and the shutdown forwards? So did McDavid. Crosby failed to produce points? McDavid didn't. He still got 7. Crosby getting the tough matchups allowed the rest of the team to score on the lesser wings players? McDavid getting the tough matchups allowed the rest of his team to play against the lesser Panthers players.

It's literally the exact same thing. The difference is what the rest of the teams did.
McDavid played with Draisaitl. And Bouchard. And Ekholm. And still got badly outscored at ES.

Here is a poll that shows the overwhelming majority of people would take Kucherov.

Then Kucherov won back to back cups and strung together multiple Art Ross trophies, Ted Lindsay trophies, won a Hart and was nominated multiple times.

So I don't really care what you think. The fact that you have multiple Panthers fans in this thread gloating about how amazing Barkov is and turning him into a Toews 2.0 doesn't sway me or the masses.

A poll from SEVEN years ago? :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

When one of them thrives with speed whereas the other is a Selke-caliber, 6'3" wall of a man on skates with offensive ability to do damage on the other end, it's tough for the well-rounded one to not gain an upper hand when he can contain him with his size, smarts and decent mobility (plus the behemoth defenders behind him, Reinhart next to him and Bob in the crease should definitely help).

I don't care enough to keep up with the minutiae of player stats, so I have no idea how McDavid's lines usually fare in their matchups. However, on the face of it, there's no shame in essentially playing Florida's first line to a draw in the finals. They're a fairly good scoring line on top of being defensively sound. I know many fans find 1-1 boring and unsatisfactory, but in the bigger picture, it's likely more conducive to winning than a globetrottery 9-9.

That said, while "shut down" is a bit of an overkill, the sentiment behind is not completely without merit. There seems to be a clear(ish) gap between what is expected and what actually happens. Expectation: OMG! He's just going to impose his will and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Sixteen million PPG! Reality: Oh, wow, a relatively eventless 1-1. Whaddya know.

I admit I was somewhat surprised the first time I realised this, but maybe I shouldn't have been? Like I said, I don't really follow Edmonton or McDavid; perhaps this is what happens against everyone.

He was skating circles around the Stars. But then they just kind of sat back and let him get wound up and start flying.
Panthers didn’t leave him all of that space to start operating. FL “shut him down”, figuratively speaking, when compared to how he did against other teams. Some take exception to the use of “shut down” because they take everything literally.

Especially with all the infractions his team is allowed to get away with. Blocking somone's path should be straight interference every time. Holding or touching McDavid when he’s trying to get past you without the puck should also be straight interference. The players who “contained” McDavid and Draisaitl played 20 PIM hockey.

Call playoff hockey like the regular season and all the sudden the Panthers don’t have a “perfect” style of play anymore.

Crosby scored the big goals when it counted the most. How many rings does McBaby have again?

I’ve seen only few regular season games this year and I was surpised how much intefering was allowed especially during finals. I think Florida did great job systematicslly blocking skating lines and with that giving extra second or two for fellow player with the puck. Edm had always web of puckless Fla players to go through. I think this was genius tactic by Maurice, and on the other hand why didnt Edm take advantage of this too?

Oilers run were often running picks on zone entries. It goes both ways

McDavid just put up points cause of weak canadian division
McRegular season
Patting stats in early rounds
after 4+4p and 5 multiopoints in first 9 SCF games
he is a no show when it means the most and against Barkov!

is there a pattern?

This is also a factor, its hard to deny it.
with regular procentage, Mcdavid would probably have 2+2 more in this series, at 3+8
and with the same procentage as Panthers add 2+2 still, he would end up with 6+10

and with that said, Bennett getting CS is a joke to me, Bob is the one that deserved it, its
still sour awarding Bennett espacially after taking out leafs goalie

He got destroyed this year. No way around it

thanks for the answer

we see things differntly

Are you sure you don't still wake up with nightmares about how Sid would be a 3x MVP if the best player in the last 20 years didn't happen to be playing at the same time? (in his 2nd year)
The fact that the unofficial heirarchy of nhl athletes affects his sleep tells you everything you need to know.
