Mcwhiner's line mates didn't see anything

It's incidental contact caused by Johansson pivoting to chase the drop pass, if he stays on the path he's originally taking it's a straightforward body to body collision with both players able to brace and nothing comes of it. As it is McDavid braces and Johansson turns into him.

It's also not necessarily a dive/embellishment, the slightest head contact can level someone if they're not expecting it.

2 minute penalty, nothing more.

The same people who are outraged and whining at one missed call have no issue with McDavid being molested on the regular.

Eh. Definitely a bit dirty, should have been a penalty, maybe a fine. Mojo's jaw must be made of styrofoam if that glancing impact took him out though.

As others have said Hartman had a greasy/dirty hit on Bouchard late in a blowout game last time these two played so it wouldn't surprise me if this was related to that.

So that's legal now, according to refs:

Should be a suspension, but it's McDavid so likely nothing is gonna happen imo. Don't get me wrong, I love watching McDavid, he is an awesome player. But that was just a dirty play and it was on purpose too.

Flame away.

I thought this was sarcasm at first. Looked like Johansson dived to me. Mcjesus barely touched him

the real issue is Minnesota was soft, you gotta run the guy if he does this to your teammate, doesn't matter if he's a superstar

Yeah but then you do that and you get a 20 page "why is everyone so mean to mcdavid" thread

I've said elsewhere I appreciate that the best player in the game is taking matters into his own hands and playing on the edge--dude is showing he wants to win at all costs--but anyone wondering why he takes so much has to start acknowledging that he's giving as much as well.

Really didn't look like much, but ultimately it doesn't have to, especially since Johansson didn't return. Should probably be a game or 2, but will probably be a fine.

The fact that Kempe kicked his skates out from under him the game before he did this is worthy of note. He gets sick and tired of the liberties taken with him (largely unpenalized) and shows his frustration.

Like I said, I don't hate it. I mean I do when we're playing him, but...

I just think some people need to stop handling him as if he's a precious holy infant incapable of sin. I don't at all blame him for playing on the edge.

I’m confused. I get why they might have missed the penalty. It was very sudden and very subtle. But it was an elbow to the head and it caused an injury. I feel like in situations like that, the league reviews it afterwards and, at the very least, issues a fine to the offending player. Especially if said player has a history.

For sure. It's just a bit odd seeing some people make him out to be Judas here. A lot of superstars go through the arc he's gone through

1) Young star furious that the league doesn't take care of him
2) Serious injury caused by liberties taken with him
3) Comes back from injury more cognizant of the fact that the league won't look out for him so he has to take care of himself.

Crosby went through the exact same thing and developed a similar nasty edge to his game.

I really struggle to see this as something other than an intentional pick play. McDavid had every ability to not have his elbow hit the jaw of another player. Not only does he not get out of the way, he flares the elbow juuust a little bit to make sure he gets in the way.

I don’t imagine he intended to get Johansson in the jaw, but he definitely intended to make contact. Not a fan of the play, and do think he should have been at least fined. I don’t blame the refs for not calling it or the league for not taking action. They have a much higher burden of proof than I do 😂

Mcdavid intends to injure way more than Crosby

So that removes the #1 and #2 because he contributes more to the violence and therefore violence hits back

but i agree with the bold part, and that's where his problems start - he's always pissed off, mostly because he hasn't won anything yet

But, the oilers are just a Brad Marchand UFA add and E Kane cap loophole away from resolving that issue for poor old McDavid

Who knows, maybe yall can sneak in a J Toews comeback @ $750k too (Bowman connections and all)

But honestly , just buy the cup already guys
