McDavid becomes only the 3rd player ever to score at least 90 points 9 seasons in a row!

Despite struggling for large parts of the season, missing games to injury and being robbed of games by an unfair suspension, Connor McDavid still was able to hit 90 points this year. This makes it the 9th time in a row that McDavid has hit at least 90 points. Only 2 other players ever has been able to hit 90 points at least 9 times in a row. The great one Wayne Gretzky hit at least 90 points 13 times in a row to start his career, from 1979-80 to 1991-92. And the late great Mike Bossy hit at least 90 points 9 times from 1977-78 to 1985-86. To put this into perspective, if Crosby somehow manages to hit 90 points this season it will be just his 9th time overall hitting 90 points, while playing his 20th season in the NHL.

McDavid will join Gretzky next year as the only other player to hit 90 points 10 times in a row and it's not impossible that McDavid could go for the record if we can somehow avoid the next lockout. 14 straight seasons with at least 90 points is a tall order, but if anybody can do it, it's McDavid!
Was 90 pts really ever in doubt?

Very impressive. That’s an elite group to join.

But some of the comments are really weird. He’s literally having his worst points season since is rookie season and to some he’s bumped a lot of the “best” players and might join 99 in the 2000 pts club.

I guess as he gets older he’ll get better.

Some of the comments in here are so odd to me.

Yes, lots of players have hit 90 points lately. Where were those guys in 2017 when McDavid was the ONLY player to do it?

Yes, two guys have done it before. How many of their seasons were abruptly cut off in February, yet they still hit the mark that their peers couldn’t hit in a full season?

It feels like if someone had made a thread a decade ago about Ovechkin’s goalscoring consistency, and some people rushed to shit on it. Maybe stop typing and consider how your take will age when criticizing a guy who’s entering the statistical realm of Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy.

Add him to the list of Late Greats:
Owen Nolan
Lanny McDonald
Connor McDavid
(Potentially Celebrini next year)

And the other two were key on their teams winning many Cups. There’s scoring points and there’s winning. McDavid is great at part one. He’s clearly overly frustrated with part two not happening.
I honestly cant imagine having a mind/heart that think like this, its like the buddist saying
drinking poison to kill my enemy...

Off topic, this was the name of an unreleased album by Styx.

Likely will finish second to only Gretzky’s 17.

10 more points this season and he’ll record his 8th 100 point season, tying him with Dionne. Only Gretzky (15) and Lemieux (10) will have more.

The journey to a new Big Five continues.

Five other players reached 90 points in 19/20 so not sure that was witnessing "greatness".

If 2020/21 was greatness despite being only 56 games (in a weak 7 team division) what are your thoughts on Crosby's 41 game season in 10/11?
Not as good. that is the correct answer.

One day you will realize that when it comes to skill and talent, McDavid is and always has been better than Crosby.

actually nevermind, the Crosby ball dusting is way too strong with you for you to ever admit that McDavid is flat out better.

And why are you bringing Crosby up in this thread anyway? He never did it.

What is this nonsense?

56 games was 100% of the schedule.

41 games in 2010-2011 was 50% of the schedule.

McDavid went on on to prove that it was no fluke by dropping 153 over the course of a full “normal” season.

Crosby went on to never hit 105 points over the course of a full season ever again.

Are you suggesting because he’s had a “bad” year he’s on a downward turn? At 28?

There’s no reason to think he won’t hit 100 pts and well beyond multiple times in the future.

It's not likely but we've seen faster and more precipitous declines.

But really, this is just another version of "Is Ovechkin done scoring" at like age 31 or whenever those threads started.

Dionne is the perfect comparable for McDavid. Lots of points; no Cup.

Not suggesting a downward turn at all.

Im saying that he’s has to put up 900+ points and win cups from 28 years of age and on to back up strangely confident claims of being the 3rd best forward ever and joining 99 in the 2000 point club.

This chat has its fair share of ridiculously extreme claims on both ends of the pro/anti 97 claims.

Threre's a reason why he's known as the best player in the league. Another legend in the making.
