Mcdavid 5min Match Penalty: Cross check to the face of Garland (Will have a hearing)

Is the league ever going to actually call the rulebook ? Why are they so insistent on having dirtbags take cheap runs at superstars ? Only major league stupid enough to allow lesser players to literally target and attempt to injure the games stars, in some weird effort to hold on to this old time "tough physical hockey" narrative

Not upset at McDavids response, every time a guy like that gets headshotted or cross checked it's because of several dirty plays that went uncalled prior.

Two reasons which reinforce each other:

1) The warped culture that elevates violence and jealously hates unbridled skill. It's systematic, programmed into the reffing as well as the institutional culture. We're talking about a league that rewards teams that take penalties by allowing them to ice the puck with impunity.

2) The mouthbreathing fanbase that wholeheartedly buys into and enables this mentality. See the majority of posts in this thread and the hundreds of threads like it on similar topics.

I agree, for sure the most ridiculous thing I’ve read here. I’m sure other teams focus equally the same on stoppning Derek Ryan as stopping Connor McDavid.
Bingo. The top stars always get checked the hardest and McDavid is likely the player that is game planned against the most and checked the hardest in the league. If not he's right up there.

He doesn’t have to fight through nearly as much as people act like he does. Nothing more than the average player.
This is one of the silliest takes I have ever seen. Teams start shadowing and interfering with McDavid even while he is in the defensive zone. The attention he draws is like no other player in the league. You can just keep it to the Oilers. Draisaitl is a star player but he doesn't get a fraction of that.

Give him a game or 2. The rest leading up to the 4NFO will be fine and will mitigate some off the overall workload before the playoffs.

Besides that, hopefully refs can get their shit together all around. Game gets out of hand, players will obviously retaliate.

DOPS ruled that Connor Garland needs to app

Worm wouldn’t have it any other way

I get that players know not to cross check guys in the head, obviously. I do wonder with these two teams, when it goes unpunished the players remember it. Creating a situation like last night.

So it's not that you believe there is special treatment for or against McDavid, it's that you want there to be special treatment for McDavid
is that what you take from that?

I hope you've never complained about the reffing ever.

The biggest threat on the ice is always going to get double teamed and shadowed.

Zadorov isn’t a star player, infractions against him don’t count apparently :sarcasm:

lol this whole situation is just a gold mine for you

You are saying that teams do not focus defensively on McDavid any more than the average player in the league? Don’t hold him up more ?
Focusing on a player =/= hooking/holding

I want them to call the game, sometimes they don't. Not denying that game management exists.

What I don't want is for them to call the game differently than they otherwise would just because McDavid or Kaprizov are involved in a play.

I don't think they do, but some Oilers fans do think that.

I don't want them to do that, but some Oilers fans (you) want them to.

Wonder what the conversation would have been if he got jumped after putting his stick into Hroneks throat (no call)

Thats all i said. I made no mention of the oilers or Mcdavid, you're the one inserting that into my opinion.

It’s just fan bias, we are all guilty of it. We can all make up hundreds of scenarios where the players we watch are constantly hooked/held. It’s a league wide issue that the NHL allows it and not isolated to McDavid.
