I mean garland basically held McDavid for a good 10 seconds and the refs did nothing. Eventually the players take into their own hands.

Refs letting things get out of hand again. Don't blame star players for taking things into their own hands anymore in this league. They should all just start playing like Messier.

I'd like to think most players wouldn't cross check someone in the face because of a missed penalty but maybe I'm an optimist.
Funny how Bouchard was holding onto Pettersson before that and Pettersson didn't crosscheck Bouchard in the head. Maybe McDavid needs to grow up.

Difference is that Soucy's cross check wasn't intended to be a headshot. Zadorov happened to crosscheck McDavid too so he buckled. Worth a suspension for sure but it wasn't a deliberate crosscheck like Myers -> Bouchard and McDavid -> Garland tonight.
There was no change in possession, and Oilers already had the goalie pulled. Calling Garland earlier doesn't change anything.
Based on how the NHL handled discipline to the Oilers in last year's playoffs as the league furiously tries to crown McDavid with a Cup, I think we can all fully expect that Garland gets suspended.

The funny thing is that one turned out bad but was likely accidental. It was high chest height but McDavid was shoved from behind as it was happening and fell into it. Garlands head is chest high maybe
