NYI plays PIT two times over the next 1.5 weeks, which is an 8 point swing for the 8th spot in the Eastern conference. If they fail to win them both, NYI's already slim playoff hopes will continue to dwindle.

What would UFAs Mayfield (1.45M per cap hit) and Varlamov (5M per cap hit) fetch either in separate deals or as a package? They may be better off selling to re-coup assets from the Horvat deal and try and re-tool this summer now that Horvat will be here long term.

mayfield could get a 2nd that becomes a 1st based on playoff results. At 50% msny trans can afford him.

Varlamov is harder because of cap hit and goalie needs. What teams in thr playoffs are shopping fir a rental goalie? Vancouver and nashville moving younger goalies with more term is where a team like the kings go to first for goalies. He’s not going to return what you hope you can get….unless a contender has a goalie injury.

From the Leafs id offer 2024 2nd + 2023 3rd + b prospect. He'd be a great addition and make our blue line tougher to play against.

Every defensemen on the islanders have regressed after Barry Trotz has left. It'd be really smart for Lou to trade 1-2 of them for profit before the rest of the league catches on. Even Dobson has been weak and bad defensively.

Ideally for a team going to the playoffs Mayfield is a bottom pair RD. He does have some playoff experience. Being an RD and a big body who will play physical helps. I wouldn't want to give up a 2nd rounder for him but I think that's about as high a return as he'll get. It might be a '24 or '25 in that case. Maybe more likely a 3rd possibly with a prospect or a later pick.

On Varlamov--he could be very good goaltending insurance but an acquiring playoff bound team is probably looking at him as a backup....not as the goalie they're looking to run with. Again it's probably something like a 3rd if you can find a team.

Mayfield is an easy 1st rounder at the deadline probably. Big, steady, no maintenance, stay-at-home RHD? On a miniscule contract? That's a premium deadline rental. The only thing that could undermine his market...is Luke Schenn being out there as well. Cheaper. But only one team can get him...so the market is still very much there.

Varlamov is trickier. Dealing for goaltenders at the deadline pretty much always goes badly. You just can't ever predict how they're going to adapt to the new situation, or how long it'll take them to do so. Typically, the deadline just is not enough time to really get into it. But there are some contending teams this year with goaltending that they may not entirely trust Which is also unusual. So who knows.

Since HF Boards is basically for fantasy anyway it's fair to ask any player's value and see where the discussion goes.

However since Lou Lamoriello literally does not trade players unless he's forced to (cap issues, expansion draft, etc), Mayfield, Varlamov, and every other Islander player won't be traded for futures so it's all a moot point.

There’s only one explanation for all of this. Blame Josh Bailey.
I blame the loss of Toews.

JK…. Truthfully Toews has not been as good this year for us either. Starting to decline or playing through something? Not sure yet…

Toews was good but had flaws when he was here. He was extremely raw and personally I didn’t expect him exceed expectations the way he did. At best his play indicated a younger Nick Leddy (without the beautiful beard).

Look at the threads he replies in. Explains enough why he’s trying to bash Mayfield and Varlamov. The guy probably thinks Halak and Harpur are better players.

He gets a pass. He has the most generational of talents sitting there collecting dust in Kravtsov. Sadly he doesn’t realize if Varlamov was available, 15 playoff teams (Boston being the only possible exception) would be interested in him. He’s still a quality goalie who can start in a 1B situation. As for Mayfield, he’s the exact type of guy a playoff team wants. Hard nosed and physcial with the ability to play a large amount of minutes.

Varly 50% retained for Blackwood + conditional 2nd( becomes a future first if NJD advance to the ECF and Varly plays 80% playoff starts)

Lmao ok buddy, they've been using that first in a possible Meier trade and you think it's gonna go for a backup goalie? HF at its finest with wanting the most unrealistic for trades for their teams. I'll gladly take a Parise reunion but Lou won't trade with us anyway probably.

Would Lou have interest in Varlamov 40% retained for Blackwood and a 3rd? Not a NYI or NJD fan, but just a thought.

I have no interest in Varlamov, get Reimer back in a Meier trade if you're that iffy on Blackwood in case Vanecek is rough in the playoffs or injury concerns.

Varlamov is a top 10 goalie buddy.( Currently has a better SV% than Shestyorkin) Far from a backup. Do your homework. Ok Buddy!! If they can get Meier sure go get him. I didnt say it made sense for NJ just responded to the other proposal.

Varly is a goalie however that can solidify a team with legit cup aspirations who may be strong everywhere except for in net.Take care buddy

So the Devils who have a .916 goalie already that they traded a second for are going to go out and trade a conditional first for a goalie who has a .001% difference in save. And once again, no, the Devils are playing with house money this year with regards to the playoffs. If you want a legit return for Varlamov, go to the Kings or Vegas. The Devils utterly make no sense for him. And once again, Lou isn't trading him to us with his archaic ways.

I agree wiseguy. I didn’t make the original proposal. I responded to it with my own terms. I been pushing Varly to Vegas for weeks. Go check the isles board

And if I had to guess Lou isn’t trading him at all. See my first post
