GDT: May 9 • France vs. Canada

I wish it went to overtime so France would have atleast got a point for their hardwork near the end.

Why didn't we get Flurry? Did Flurry not get an offer to join team Canada?

Embarrassing was last year - we lost. We heavily outplayed them today, and have ****** goaltending. But embarrassed? Nope.

If you want someone to be embarrassed for, look to France in that 2nd period.

France played without Huet, Bellemare, Stephane Da Costa and with our third goalkeeper !!!

Roussel is playing with injury all along the world championships...

It should have been 7-0 for Canada or sth like this

Terrible hockey. How many times did France lineup 5 guys in their own end.

No choice I guess.
 
I think they should try:
Hall-Duchene-Eberle
O'Reilly-Crosby-MacKinnon
Seguin-Spezza-Giroux
Eakin-Couturier-Toffolli
 
Lets be honest here, the Canadian players were on autopilot, unfortunately autopilot for a crap goaltender is peewee level.

Whats the point in destroying teams like this?

Canada did it a few years back and beat France 9-1, in the end it didn't do much good as they lost in the quarters.

Just wait until they play the top teams, save energy.

If Canada were able bury France early, like they did with Latvia and Germany, they would have. France deserves credit for giving Canada a game for the second year in a row.

Smith is bad but they played Jones today.

The team was sloppy. i think I read somewhere that family/girlfriends were allowed to join them yesterday. So maybe it had something to do with that.

Kudos to France for a hard fought game

No Fleury did not get an invite. Fleury even told the media after the playoffs that he checked the Canadian roster on their website and they already had two goalies. He said he did not get an offer to join team Canada. I guess team Canada did not want to be disrespectful to Jones and Smith because they had already chosen them. But Fleury played excellent in the playoffs against the Rangers, I would have been extremely comfortable with team Canada's goaltending if Fleury was in net.
 
I think the real question is : how many people in Canada woke up that early for a game versus France?


Mind you, looks like it was a close battle. Was hoping France would at least get a point, as they're my two favorite teams.

Good to see Ebs stepping up, nevertheless.
 
People act like Canada even tries against a team like France. They could really care less.
 
Not overly impressed with this performance, but we all know they were not giving their all and that they can play like 100x better. Was at the game and it's a shame they didn't score more than one goal in the second where it was 15-1 on shots for Canada. Quite many canadians in Prague! And latvian fans everywhere :laugh: bot no, seriously, a lot of fans in front of the O2arena from many countries it seems

Both lines were/are erratic defensively.
Sid centering the 2 is more dangerous in the O-zone imo.
Like someone said earlier, i'd like to see a O'Reilly-Sid-MacKinnon 1a/b line with Giroux's the other. Both would be better defensively. Match Hall-Duchene-Eberle up against the opp's 3rd/4th worst O-lines.
 
don't worry people, there is a chance we see a double digit number again against Austria since it's the last game before the quarter-finals ;)

That's what dangerous about it, I'd say. It might lull Canadians to sleep before the all-decisive quarterfinal game... and the sixth-straight 1st-round play-off exit would be completed.
