Could there be something to be worked out between the two teams?

Vegas seems to be in some serious cap troubles.

Max Pax seems like one of the likely ones to be shipped out.
Hague is a RFA who probably wants to start getting paid a healthy salary.

NYI needs help with both finding a winger to attach to Barzal along with LD help.

Vegas looking for futures maybe? 13th overall?

Wait, so the Islanders are taking on a $7m cap hit in Patches plus whatever Hague is going to cost and giving up no cap in return with having to resign Dobson off his RFA? Ouch

It’s fair value. All the Islanders would have to do is ship out Varlamov, Bailey, or Palmieri in another trade.

The other deal would have to be in place in order for this one to happen. Just to make this deal without having a way to clear the additional space needed just wouldn’t work. Palmieri also has too much term left to be moved without some form of a cap hit coming back in return. It would be either Bailey, Varlamov or Beauvillier. Then you also have the other factor of Patches being another 30+ veteran to go with the aging core the Islanders currently have. I’d rather personally see a younger player come in honestly.

An established 1st line winger for 1 year + a potential top 4 defenseman is worth a mid first. Barzal isn’t getting any younger.

Seems like not enough value for Vegas.

You are basically ripping apart their d core and top six for nothing on the roster.

Seems more likely that you would see Karlsson or Stephenson dealt to keep Eichel, whoever isn’t dealt and Roy as their top 3Cs

We are not trading the 13th overall for Pax and his contract. Vegas is the one who has to move his contract, they are not in a position to dictate or have any power here.

We aren't going to help them out, they have to sweeten the deal for us to take him...not the other way around.

Patches at his age and cap hit is not worth a top 20 pick.

i don’t see the isles having the cap room

Nailed it!

Personally, I’d rather the islanders shoot for a bigger fish and circle back to max as a last resort. Isles really need another guy who can drive the play and take it to the opposition. Max is a great player but he’s not somebody who is going to drive play and carry the puck into the zone. More of a guy on the outside

There's no way Patches has negative value. He has one year left on his contract. A guy like him gets a 1st + at the deadline no problem. Any bottom dwellers would take him if that was the case.

34 yr old 7M player with 1 year left is not worth the 13th pick...sorry. Not for the islanders, we need someone younger who can play and grow with Brazal for years to come. Not for 1 year.

Not disputing that. Just your original claim that was out to lunch.

Not enough for a mid first, but Pacioretty doesn't HAVE to be moved so IF Vegas decides to trade him they'll absolutely get some positive value back. He's more valuable than Stastny and Schmidt were when they had to be moved.

Hague probably isn't going anywhere unless he can be enticed to sign an offer sheet.

It's not but if they can move out 7M+ whatever Hague was going to cost, they could snag a bargain UFA when free agency starts (and re-sign Smith too).

Although I'd hate to lose Hague.

I know people think this board overvalues picks, but trading a top 15 pick for a 34 year old on a questionable contract is not good.

Wasn't Dobson picked 13th, or close to it? YOu keep the pick, and you enjoy 7 years of control unless a younger player that makes sense is offered.

If you want to make that splash, maybe you target someone like Fiala, I think he's still an RFA for one more year.

I mean NYI could go the offer sheet route and see if VGK can match a $4.1M AAV offer instead.

But figured the two sides might want to avoid bad blood and work out a trade for him and Max Pax instead on here.

Do you have reading comp issues?

This is for two players.
Nope, thanks for asking though

But to reply to your nice comment. Like miscs75 stated earlier

Obviously one of our forwards with cap, like Bailey or Beau, would be going out in an additional trade to create cap room.

Cmon, it's kind of common sense logic.
