With the Hawks rebuilding they will likely be active sellers with several pieces on block

An intriguing player is Max Domi who was signed as UFA in offseason in what was pretty clearly a signing for intention of eventually trading him. For Domi camp it was a 1 yr deal to attempt to rebuild his stock after his struggles last year

Thus far it looks like signing is working out for both camps with Hawks having a potential solid trade chip and Domi having a rebound year

Domi currently has 9 goals + 10 assists in 23 games

Could Domi return a 1st from a contender who will be drafting late this year or in future drafts? Or is he most likely at best a 2nd + prospect type trade

Is he playing with Kane?

The Leafs wouldn't trade Knies and a 1st for Brandon Hagel and is cap hit. But they are giving up this for two rentals?

He'd produce.... but then not get ice time because coaches won't trust him to be defensively reliable or not take bad penalties.

That got leaked which is probably what killed the deal.

Last year he went at the deadline with retention for pretty damn close to nothing. I think a 2nd would be an extremely successful trade for Chicago. Glad he's playing well this year but I think teams will still be hesitant on him. 3rd or 2nd at best is my guess. No chance a team gives a 1st for Domi

I'd say his last name implies a first alone...I would not aim low on him.

The market for him was very weak last deadline. That points to a recognition that he’s not his dad. The league doesn’t place high value on Middle 6 skill wingers. Being stapled to Kane and copious 1st PP time won’t fool anyone, imo.

You give NHL GM's too much credit. Trade deadline and July 1st is usually 75/25 bad to good moves.

Yeah I think he gets a 1st, now does he deserve it? No probably not but he's Jonathan Towes, he's got that winning pedigree, that winning reputation.

Not only that but he was the captain so he will get it,especially now that teams like Colorado need center depth.

I could see that too, but I could see a guaranteed 1st for him because I think his name carries A LOT of value

Reputation, defensive play and imponderables (leadership, toughness, etc..) are very important in the NHL, comes the TD.

That's why Toews will get a 1st and not Domi.
