Max Domi is interesting to me because for as talented as he is, and he is anytime he's available he never gets what you think he should.

One thing he does havee going for him though is that unlike most UFA's he's still in his 20's, in fact that's one thing this UFA crop does have going for it is that it does have a few guys in their 20's, Barbashev, Bertuzzi and Domi come to mind.

What kind of contract do you think he gets?

Because I don't think he's breaking the bank.

I think Barbashev, Killorn, Bertuzzi, ROR etc. all end up getting more than he does.

does he play center or winger?
if he plays in the center I would like to see Colorado offer him a 5 year 4M contract (he expressed that he would like to settle in the same place for a long time)

He went from $5.3M two years ago to $3M last year on a show-me deal, and he certainly did so. I could see him back to $5M or $5.5M and five or six years. I don't think this guy ends up a steal. He was great for Dallas and everyone saw it.

I agree That's probably what he should get but like I said he never gets what you think he should get.

Signing Max Domi to a 5 year deal would be absurd. He's an ok player but not a guy you make part of your long term plans.
For 4M he begin his contract as 2C and after 2y when the cap go higher he begin to be a good 3c or 2 line winger.

You always hear everyone say how well he fits in, but then they never have much interest in keeping him. There has to be something there for this to keep happening to him.

Unfortunately, he might have to again, settle for a team who needs to spend some short term money.

That is likely a very sensible approach, but it's free agency and the center market sucks this summer.

Whereas a bunch of teams would like to offer him a short, low AAV contract, the number of clubs willing to commit is certainly going to be much shorter. It only takes one, though. Couple that with the fact that he can't really afford to turn down security. He hasn't padded that nest yet. So he's got to sign with the high bidder, not chase a Cup. He's not flush enough for that.

He's probably going to make bank. Dallas' deep run drew a lot of attention to his play. That is what is new. He didn't get what you'd expect in the past because he got a little lost in the shuffle amid the regular season cacophony, but he played in the conference finals this year. Just four teams left, and he played really well under that sporlight. No more flying under the radar.

I don't recall anyone saying this in Columbus or Carolina.

but then they never have much interest in keeping him.

Small scorer that has often defended poorly. Not that complicated.

Dallas supposedly really wants to keep him but he might have to give a discount to stay there given their cap situation.

I've never been a fan, but, I will admit the Leafs could use him at this stage of his career, now that he's figured out who he is as a player a little more, and seemingly playing a more mature game.
Be a decent Bunting replacement for Ref's to target on the Leafs

Or a MASSIVE upgrade on Kerfoot

1 year $8 mil. I love this kid, but I don't see him in the long-term plans for the Hawks at the moment. Hawks overpay him for a season so he can rackup points playing next to Bedard. Then trade and retain him for picks

3.5M (Including the substantial baggage fee). I wouldn't give him NTC/NMC either. This is a "show me you're not still a puke" contract.

13 million for 3 years , probably Blackhawks .

Hawks just re-signed Athanasiou $4.25M for 2 years. Domi is worth a higher AAV than Athanasiou.

With the Hawks cap space for the next 3 years until Bedard gets his post-ELC contract - they can overpay to get what they want. If Domi has offers like 5x5 - then maybe the Hawks offer him $6M for 3 years - so a total of $25M over 5 years versus $18M over 3 years. Maybe he does it.

I don't think he's getting 6 million over any years
