Man I really want to keep Hayton. There's no rush to make a trade just to get MavLam a roster spot. I think Vinny is implying that there is a rush in getting a 2C upgrade.
What are some examples of C's that we could target?
Byfield for Durzi, Hayton, Maccelli and 2nd?
Beniers?
McTavish?
It seems this package is rich, but I suspect it wouldn't be enough.
Who do you have in mind? The only argument to moving Kesselring is if you believe this is as good as he's going to get.
Every team in the league would be interested in Kesselring and if he was a piece that helped bring in an elite 2C, they'd at least think about it.
Barzal. I just think the NYI are going to look to shake things up and Barzal is a piece I would love to try and free.Who do you have in mind?
Ok, who do you think NYI want in return? Barzal is shit at FO's.Barzal. I just think the NYI are going to look to shake things up and Barzal is a piece I would love to try and free.
I think there should be a focus on finding the right fit for 2LW. This season we had five top six forwards. It's hard to blame Hayton when he hasn't had a decent LW to work with.
In a couple years it's the obvious spot for Iginla. I thought Maccelli could keep the spot warm but Tourigny disagrees. I think Crouse, McBain and Doan should be cemented together as our 3rd line forever. So either But comes in and steals the spot or Bill finds a new body. Finding a new body might actually lock But and Iginla out of decent spots in the lineup for too long though.
So my thought is to do nothing.
Keller Cooley Schmaltz
But Hayton Guenther
Crouse McBain Doan
Kerfoot Stenlund Raddysh
Sergachev Marino
Maatta Kesselring
Simashev Durzi
Could be.Does this lineup reach the cap floor?
Each BA interview I hear I think more and more he's gunning for Marner.
Good luck with that contractDoes this lineup reach the cap floor?

All of this is going off the premise that the Islanders are looking to move Dobson either for a forward upgrade or his demands are too much. Mayfield is likely on his way out as well, his play has fallen a lot these last couple of years and I'm sure they'd almost pay someone to take him.Ok, who do you think NYI want in return? Barzal is shit at FO's.
I really don't like this, because I'm an HF fan - I'm all about the picks and prospects - but this might make sense. Barzal will be 28 next season, he's not as old as I thought. He's signed through his 33 year old season. All of this is going off the premise that the Islanders are looking to move Dobson either for a forward upgrade or his demands are too much. I think Kesselring can play the 2 RHD slot very well right now and if Dobson is gone, that's a big hole for the Islanders to try and fill. Most of their defensive prospects are left handed so Kesselring could fit in with them in the long run.
Assuming this trade takes place at the draft and Utah ends up with the 11th-14th pick:
Barzal + Engvall/Cizikas (salary dump) + 2025 7th for Kesselring + Utah 2025 1st + Utah 2026 2nd (could be the best of the three) + Beaudoin
I might be way off in my valuations but let me know.
Yes, easily.Does this lineup reach the cap floor?

I think I would offer Durzi instead of Kesselring. Kesselring brings more physicality and will fight. We need more physicality not less. All of this is going off the premise that the Islanders are looking to move Dobson either for a forward upgrade or his demands are too much. Toronto would match ANY offer sheet.Yes, easily.
It's also simple to circumvent.
Talk up the value on Marner then offer sheet Knies once Marner extends.
Marner currently makes $11 million and wants a raise. How do you think the lineup will start to look when you pay a winger the reported $13.5 million he wants to be above? And let's not forget, a winger who has yet to show he can elevate in the playoffs. Why do you say that?
How many TO players have elevated in the playoffs for the last 50 yrs.? There is plenty of finger pointing to go around there. So far, Utah doesn't have other bloated contracts like TO and Edmonton etc. Not saying I would sign Marner, but with the cap going up will help the cap situation.Marner currently makes $11 million and wants a raise. Abd if he isn't giving his hometown childhood team a discount, i highly doubt he's giving one to Utah.
Nylander, Tavares, and Rielly from current group. Would you like other generations? Sign Marner for $13 plus million and then do Keller, Cooley, etc and you will see how quickly Cap space disappears. I've been hearing about Cap space going up for a few years but the top guys just take it all and leave little for filling out roster. Yep....I’d keep all of them.
Elevated their game all the way to where? Since 2006 the Leafs have ONE playoff series win. Yep, that is really elevating their game. Have the largest payroll most years. Yet, Marner is to blame. The cap is there for every team, yet teams like Tampa, Avalanche, Kings, Knights, Hurricanes, Bruins seem to be in the running every year. Most times it's good management. There are going to be changes for next year. 3-5 different players will probably be on the opening roster. There will be trades, who goes and who comes is anyone's guess.Yep....
I don't see Bortuzzo returning. Would rather have 2-3 guys clawing it out to get on the bottom pair.
Barring he has a world beater camp I still think Simachev starts in the A, and then gets in by the TDL.
At least you didn't move the goalposts??? I'm gonna give you this top for free Jakey, players can play well and elevate their game even when their team doesn't win. I don't recall blaming Marner for anything but reality is when you demand the most money you are expected to be best players when it counts. Every team you mentioned has their best players leave money on the table to make the team better, show me which Leaf has done that.Elevated their game all the way to where? Thx for that.
Imo, we'd ideally look to get a player who could help Guenther
With BA signing all his regular vets on D, I would think that means he doesn't think any kids are available yet for full time NHL play. That could change at training camp though.
I was thinking Geekie and Zadorov, if they want to get rid of that contract and having 2nd thoughts. I know the Bruins were interested in Beadoin and wondering if they think highly of Skahan too...I watch as many Boston games as anyone on this Forum, I'd be cautious with Geekie.
He's a fantastic complementary player but he really needs a driver to make him go. And even so, he's more suited for a depth scoring role than anywhere near the Top 6 C role. He's doing a fantastic job finding the quiet areas and being fed pucks by Pasta/Zacha right now and he has a great one-timer that's contributing to his goal scoring ability.
The Craig Janney to our Keith Tkachuk!Thx for that.
Imo, we'd ideally look to get a player who could help Guenther ie someone who has vision and can pass the puck. The Adam Oates to our Brett Hull, the Nicky Backstrom / Kuzy for our Ovechkin equivalent, the Mitch Marner for our AM34. And no, I'm not saying we should expect Guenther to be as good as any of those players, but the idea is the same -- he's a goal scorer so ideally his center should naturally be pass-first.
And to be clear I... don't know who that player would be. But imo that's the type of 2C we'd be looking for esp if we're giving up assets like Hayton and / or Durzi (and / or a different D) and / or draft picks
