Either way, I think Matthews wins. The only thing that would make it closer is that Tkachuk probably had worse offensive support, but I don't think that's enough to put him over Auston here.

Good question.

At some point we'll get into better goal scoring season vs better season overall. What are we evaluating?

Ie for goalscoring Matthews 24 might be better than McDavid 23. But McDavid is definitely better overall season.
