Bondra.

But I could be convinced otherwise, I think.

Pretty easy Ovechkin. Raw/adjusted stats are pretty much identical, only difference being that Ovechkin's goals were easily better relative to his peers than Bondra.

Took Bondra as Ovi really feasted on one weak division and the other 2 divisions not so much.

Bondra, beat very strong competition that year despite not benefiting of particularly strong linemates. Was at least goal-per-game against 38.5 % of the teams he played against.

Charts like this tell us more about other top goal socrers than it really does with Bondra and Ovechkin though right?

The built in assumption is that all of the competition is more or less equal but that's not really the case with these charts.

I mean they do say something but the degree upon which certain posters (not saying you but everyone knows the 2 most common guys here that do this) like to parade them out without mentioning that Ovechkin is historically an insane volume shooter, even for goal scorers needs to be brought up as well right?

Bondra’s peers were easily better than Ovechkin’s. That top 30 during Ovechkin’s season is a joke. Ovechkin doesn’t get bonus points due to feasting on weak competition.

Also worth noting that Bondra scored 25% of his team’s goals.

Ovi feasted on the SE division which had the 1,2,5,6 worst defensive teams in the league with a 18-16-13-29.

Against the other 2 divisions his line was 30-16-11-27.

Bondra was more balanced with 18 goals in 24 games against the northeast and 16 goals in 23 games against the Atlantic.
