Crosby 81 games not 74
51 goals not 58
Stamkos was 19 years old for most of that season.

I voted Crosby, though it should be noted that Stamkos scored 51 of Tampa Bay’s 214 goals (not including 3 shootout goals), which is 23.8%. Crosby scored 51 of Pittsburgh’s 249 goals (not including 8 shootout goals), which is 20.5%.

Still, with so much being close when you dig further into their individual numbers, I usually always lean towards the playmaker finding the time to score that many goals while handing out more assists.

I’m honestly curious about the reasoning for factoring this in? I’ve seen it a lot with percentage of points on goals for the Hart as a measure of value, or in terms of point totals since there’s more chance of assists if your team is scoring a bunch, but I’m not sure if their teammates scoring has much affect on their own goal totals. I guess maybe team playing style, but Tampa wasn’t really defensive, they were just bad. If anything, having St.Louis as a regular linemate probably gives Stamkos an edge in help from his team.

I think the biggest thing in Stamkos’s favour here would be sustainability. His shooting percentage jumped from his rookie year but was fairly in line with his career average, and even more in line with his subsequent seasons before his leg injury. Crosby‘s wasn’t a huge outlier, but it was more of one. If they both shot their career averages it would have been 50 goals for Stamkos and 43 for Sid.
