Maurice leads panthers to third straight Final

Congrats to ex-Jets coach Paul Maurice for making the Finals 3 years in a row.

It could have been us. Sigh*
It could have been us....

Not sure what you mean by it could have been us? (Legit confused not trolling)

He was always a solid NHL coach on pretty average teams for most of his career. When he finally got to coach a really stacked team that listened to him he has been able to get them to the finals 3 seasons in a row which proves he is a good enough when he has the talent (my guess is lots of coaches check that box). As for his time with us, he was a very good coach and effective coach here for a stretch but all coaches have a shelf life and his had expired by 2020.

Arniel just came off perhaps the best season by a coach in the Jets 2.0 history so I am happy for us, and I am happy for Paul and his success.

Key point
A team that listened to him.
Wasn’t here the last few seasons he was here.
I’d argue our 2018 was considered stacked.
Good for PoMo

yeah we didn't win in 2017-18 2018-2019 because we didn't listen to maurice...
We lost the WCF because we faltered and Fleury stood on his head.
That team was a great team and Maurice was in charge fully.
I’d say that the team tuned him out the last couple of seasons, hell the guy quit because the team was not responding.

It couldn't have been us since he literally quit and walked out on the Jets mid season. It's not like he was fired or run out of town - He. Quit. On. Us.

Stanley Cup winning coach Paul Maurice does have a chance now to repeat. Winning once is a huge accomplishment. Winning back to back in the modern era puts him in elite company. Good luck, Paul.

in the last couple of seasons we didn't have a roster capable of winning the cup, coaches have a shelf life for a reason, when you don't have success it's hard to keep doing/wanting to do the same things...

think maurice is getting over rated as a coach around here, he is a good coach with a stacked roster, a roster that is better then any team he had here, people are acting like the panthers are only winning because they listen to him while the jets would have had the same success had they just listened...

Yeah. I don't know why he keeps getting brought up here. It was time and both him and the org needed a change. It worked out for both parties, Maurice went to a team built for his style and has had tremendous success. The Jets were able to correct their locker room and rebrand their identity, which has lead to a big turnaround in the culture and on ice product. That wasn't going to happen with Maurice here.

I think he had the teams ear in 17-18 and that team was stacked but we might have been a bit young to win it all and that was really our first big playoff run. 2018-19 second have of that season is where I felt trouble started filtering in. We picked up a few key injuries but also that is when it seemed like the drama escalated and never really went away completely.

they were good teams but this florida team is better, I just think he is being given far too much credit around here, and is being absolved of all blame because his stacked florida team is having success, he was in charge of the players, he let the players run the room, he needed to have a much better pulse of where the room was at and he is to also blame for letting the room get to where it was

Yeah, going to echo ps241. Not sure what you mean by “could have been us”.

PoMo has one of the most well constructed rosters of the cap era in South Florida. He hasn’t fumbled that.

Good on him, he seems like a genuinely good leader of men. He unfortunately ran out of runway - no pun intended - in Winnipeg long before he dipped.

I don't know lots of good coaches with good teams never won the Cup . I think stacked roster or not you still have to be a pretty good coach to win the Cup and Maurice getting there again the very next season is a pretty good accomplishment. Would love to see him win again AND beat both Toronto and the Oilers on the way.
