Matty Boldy...

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I like the player and how he plays. Don't normally see players with his skill so willing to put the puck behind a defenseman and go get it.

Obviously a good player but I'm sure MIN fans want more. Didn't take off when Kaprizov went down. Do you see him becoming something more than just a 60-70 point complientary winger

JMO but I think that team is so devoid of offensive talent outside of he and Kaprizov (who has missed half the year and who he doesn't play with much at ES anyway) his production is better than people think.

His situation reminds me a lot of Matt Tkachuk early on in his career. Defense-first forward deployed on a shutdown line with Backlund (JEE) who scored respectably but not a lot. When he got older and the Flames moved him onto a line with more skill where his job was to score, he exploded. I expect the same to happen with Boldy.

They need some more talent around him. He's a first line winger but needs help.

"Just"?

That's a fantastic outcome, and he's likely to be closer to 80 this season. He's already closer to a PPG winger than a 60-70 point guy, just a total beauty and a coach's dream.

But I don't think we've seen his ceiling yet either, plus full man strength.

It is pretty wild how theyve managed to be offensively anemic since inception. Theyve had pretty high end O talent too in Gaborik and KK, but not much around them taking off.

It reminds me of looking at the Canucks D since 1975. Its awful for 50 years worth.

Degree of difficulty is higher when you don't have prolonged stretches at the top of the draft.

He has done really well with KK and EE out of the lineup. Kind of carrying the team with Rossi and they have done as good as can be expected.

I expected him to get 80 85 points, but with the KK injury, hes facing top D pairings all night, which definitely hurts his output. He is a great fit defensively, can play on a scoring line or in a shut down role, but he needs a complementary player to assist him. Playing a full season with KK will increase his output simply, and if we lock Rossi up, itll allow Boldy to play full time with Kaprizov while not handicapping the rest of the lineup.
I think he needs to shoot first instead of being so fancy and holding the puck in the offensive zone.

Boldy is an offense first player. I do agree with the bolded. Very skilled player. Not much of a skater, but has long arms, great moves, really good passing and a good shot. Is improving defensively. Lately he has been making some poor turnovers, but that's what you get with creative offensive players.

I think he and Rossi are getting worn down. You can only do the "next man up" thing for so long. Losing Kaprizov, and JEE, who does all of the defensive and physical work on the top 6, for extended periods of time has hurt their games.

Kaprizov is coming back soon (started skating and rumoured to be travelling on the upcoming road trip) so Boldy will get the chance to get hot again.

This team needs more talent around him. Very obviously a top line winger, but not a superstar level player that can carry an offense by himself.

It's tough too because when everyone's healthy, the top line is Kaprizov-Rossi-Zuccarello, solely because Zuccarello is entirely useless when he's not on that line, which means Boldy is still stuck with the "leftovers". Eriksson Ek is a good player but he's not exactly an offensive dynamo, and the best options for that other wing spot are Marcus Johansson and Ryan Hartman.

Boldy is basically getting screwed out of production by terrible roster construction. Hopefully Yurov is everything we hope he can be, but man this team desperately needs at least a couple more good offensive players. Kaprizov/Boldy/Rossi can't be expected to carry an entire top six like they are now.
