Knies had his best month of the season in February and was playing well until he got his bell rung by that twat Marchand. Would maybe give him a bit more rope to gather himself together
Fair. He gets all the rope. No panic moves for him. I was just thinking he could take a night or two off once we get a few more healthy bodies back. It really looks like he is struggling to compete physically right now.

Noticed Brodie didn't play. Is this Keefe finally doing the right thing and scratching him or......

EDIT: Just saw in GDT. He actually healthy scratched Brodie. HOLY SHIT! Good on you Keefe!

Benoit credited with more hits (9) than all the Caps D combined (6).

Three defenders on the left wall on the PK, so of course Carlson is wide open for a pass to a wide open Ovi. The only surprise is that Ovi didn't score twice on that shot.

Great shot by Willy and setups of McMann and JT. And Matty with 5 points, now only 2 back!

Only one game, but I like Domi on the wing more than at centre, and he was certainly clicking with Matty!

It possibly sets up Mitch with JT, which would certainly help JT's defence, and Willy with two speedsters, maybe McCabe and Jarnkrok, on his wings.

If we get an extended look of Domi with Matthews I'm not against the following:

Jarnkrok - Matthews - Domi (I feel Bert/Domi might be too awful defensively in a series on the top line)
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Bert - Holmberg - Nylander
Dewar - Kampf - McMann

Don't really like the 3C, but Nylander can carry a line on his own pretty well

Rielly-McCabe had a good showing as a pairing. As a pair they had an xGF% of 60.18% and only allowed one high danger chance. Individually in all situations xGF% of 54.54 for Jake and 62.44 for Morgan. Potentially something there as a duo going forward.

Could be kinda like a Kessel for Penguins situations. Where teams had to use their best options against the Crosby and Malkin lines and Kessel just feasted on the opposition from the third line on that Stanley Cup run.

If Nylander is on the third line Matthews and Tavares-Marner lines will get most of the attention.

I posted this pregame…

Doom nation likely to be shocked, when the Leafs actually play a good game tonight, raising our expectations for the next game, only to be disappointed again.

Now can we just prove me wrong, and play the right way for more than a game?

It is quite interesting that whoever partners with Domi ends up playing well.
Domi might just be one of those glue guys that we kept saying we lacked.

At $3 mil, he provides good value.

I’ve always been interested in this setup, but one of the aspects that made it tough to do was Matthews linemates wouldn’t be good fits for him. We need players to get him the puck and let him shoot

Domi provides that and fills a hole no one outside of Marner/Nylander has been able to do. If this can last we open up a ton of possibilities

Benoit should never sit another game. Over 17 minutes plus 1 and 9 hits

He was the main reason why the Caps got 2 of the goals yesterday though. I like him a lot and didn't think he had a bad game despite the mistakes either. But if Brodie makes those same mistakes, people in here would lose their minds. I do think he should be in the lineup but "never sit another game" is a little much. He's not perfect or anything, but he does hit.

Because they have different expectations, not to mention different pay grades. Brodie makes 5M, Benoit makes much less. Of course Brodie would be criticized more, as he should be. It’s only logical. Why can’t we expect more from the veteran Brodie who makes more money? It is what it is.
