yea, it was a nothing game after all.

It's just funny. To need to have 3 points in a game in order to "not suck". He had 2x as many points in that game as Crosby and Makar combined. But they can passenger themselves to a win so nobody will remember.

nope. this thread is on " zero goals" from a goal scorer.
Plus Mc David was wide open in the slot cause Matthews had nobody. Connor teed it up with all the time in the world. Boom. Game over. Thanks Austin, good job.

Looked like Phil Danault out there , skate around , shadow a guy , break up a play here and there , anything but score a clutch goal , as usual.

Besides not scoring the entire tournament, he also failed to score on 3 doorstep chances at the start of OT. Then he got completely manhandled by McDavid on the losing faceoff which resulted in McDavid being able to go forward with the puck and get a shot, somethign that should never happen on a D zone draw. Then he compounded that by leaving MCDavid alone in teh low slot to go chase Marner in the corner even though Marner was already being pursued by D man.

He completely choked that game away for the US. And how the F is a loser like that allowed to wear the C????

Better than him have tried to stop McDavid and failed.

That is a combined pace of under 17 goals for an 82 game season. Matthews is not one of those top ten goal scorers as he has missed time due to injury and has played hurt.

The advanced stats show that Matthews had the most offensive and defensive impact of any American player in the final game.

You want to be a dog on a bone on him not scoring a goal? Go right ahead. Can you explain why you ignore the defensive contribution and impact? Can you please explain why you are singling out his lack of goals and not Connor? Reinhart? Nylander? Hughes? These guys aren't injured and did not have the defensive impact.

I will admit when someone is right. You are right, this thread is about Matthews not scoring. I honestly thought this was all a tangent in the Tkachuk thread I was more active in. I apologize for the error and can completely understand how this makes me look to be trying to hard. If this was a Tkachuk thread then you would have been going out of your way to bash AM34. It isn't and you aren't.

I stand by my Matthews position but am not trying to argue the fact that headline summarizes so correctly.

Yup. Every player is at some moment the goat. It’s the level of importance of that moment that magnifies it. This tournament, and poor defending by Matthews on the McDavid winner, had a lot of eyes watching. That moment especially was significantly magnified.
