Matthews was good but man can he not bury it in the clutch. The man must get nervous or something. Easily should have ended it in OT.
It’s a short tournament so whatever on the goals. His defense play in important situations is just poor.
Never watched Matthews from a “rooting for him perspective” before really but damn I get why he’s frustrating.
Canada won because its best star players produced, MacKinnon was lights out this tournament with 4 goals, McDavid of course with 3. Marner was quite productive too.
There was absolutely nothing from Matthews, Eichel and company.
Far far off base.
Marner 4gp, 1 goal, 2 assists = quite productive
Matthews 3gp, 0 goals, 3 assists = nothing
Eichel 4gp, 0 goals, 4 assists = nothing
Interesting take
The guy is pure heart and soul and left everything out there tonight.
Crazy how he’s been “injured” for every important game in his entire career and also every game where he played poorlyIf he really is that injured, he probably should've declined.
And I mean at least he's got a legit excuse. What happened to Hughes? I didn't hear his name all tournament long. I thought he was going to be awesome.
Probably because they want him as the face of U.S. hockey. And he is their best player offensively. Can any US fans explain why Matthews was made captain? He's won nothing at any level.
I mean event though Sid isn't the best player on the team mcdavid Mac Makar all got the respect that he should be captain.
Couldn't the Americans name a guy who's won more than one playoff round and shown leadership?
Dont get the logic.
Probably because they want him as the face of U.S. hockey. And he is their best player offensively.
Who should have been captain?
When’s the last time he played an important game and wasn’t “injured”?Solid defensively (except on the golden goal unfortunately), 2 primary assists, dominant all game, the most dangerous player for either team in OT.
Anyone even mentioning his goal scoring clearly doesn’t follow him or the Leafs. He has been injured all year, missed nearly a month and flew to Germany to get right. He literally cannot shoot the puck, he was moved to the net front on the PP because he’s not a shot threat right now. He had a 6 game goalless streak leading up to the tourney which is the longest stretch of his career.
