I think it’s time to start the discussion because I believe it’s going to happen sooner than later that Matthews will be moved out of Toronto

In his media exit interview he threw his team under the bus saying that they had too many passengers

Toronto will not make the same mistake they did with Marner by having him leave for nothing

3 years left on Matthews contract and I see him following Marner wherever he goes

I predict he will not be a leaf for more than 2 more seasons and maybe less.

He bled the team for every penny he could get and still signed only a 4 year deal where many other stars like McDavid and MacKinnon signed longterm deals

So where do you think he ends up ??

Can you really blame him for taking the money? Guy's mom was working two jobs his whole childhood, I'm sure you'd take the money and run too.

Is he a big game guy? No... if that's what Toronto is looking for then they should get what they can and move on. He's a very, very elite finisher but he's not "the guy"... and that's OK.

I could easily picture him in LA

Problem with Matthews (and Marner since talking about Leafs) is you can't be paying them $12M+ to "not be the guy". You need that guy, paid like that, to be the guy. Even when cap is going up.

You can pay Phil Kessel "to not be the guy" like $8M.

This is the big problem with these Leafs' Dubas paid players. They got paid too much early on compared to everyone else except Dubas' acquired Tavares. You can't win paying so many similar players that much.

Yep very true... but it's not on the player, it's on the organization for doing that

Remember, it’s only greed if you’re a millionaire and we know your face. Become a billionaire owner and somehow the standards don’t apply!

Also there is some chatter that he has lingering back issues that he’s learn to deal with. This may be a situation that gets worse with time.

Might be a good trade the player when his value is highest

We'll take him for 2 more years and we can trade him afterwards if he doesn't want to resign.

Unlike Marner, Matthews can handle our city and would do right by our fans.

If you don’t like it put me on ignore

I wanted to hear what other fanbases think. And I didn’t feel I needed to run it by you.

Here you go problem solved

Bonus if that isn't enough reading

ALl in the last month btw

Yeah but what if a team that probably doesn’t want to trade a guy (who has an NMC) wants to trade a guy (with an NMC) who probably doesn’t want to leave? Isn’t that an interesting discussion?
