I know people here like to slobber over goals but Im happy Matthews play making is up and his overall production has him at 94 pts per 82 vs ~108 per 82 last year, only down 14 pts per 82 which was mostly due to being a bit banged up/hurt first 20 games of the year.
He has not had a major decline as a pt producer, and is evolving for the better.
If he could get 40-45Gs and 60-70A a year he'd finally become the franchise 1C who is more likely to consistently produce come playoffs time.
Hoping Matthews goal scoring rebounds a bit but his ability to make nice passes, draw defenses and find open/trailing mans, and be able to thread cross ice seams/needle tough coverage zones continues to improve.
I dont want to see 65G and 35A matthews again.
40G and 70A would be him having reinvented himself to a guy who will carry us far come playoffs.
Pure 1-D goal scorers often go ghost come playoffs and fall hard (OV from 2011 to 2017, Kovalchuk, Heatley, Iginla, etc as some examples). A Dominant dual (but more focuses/tilted to playmaking) center/winger end up dominating the playoffs more often (Mack, Kuch, Drai, Crosby, McD)
