How many goals do you guys think Matthews ends up with? Over 30? I think he lands around 34 when it's all said and done. Who knows at this point, his shot doesn't look like it's 100%. Definitely seems less accurate this year for sure.

He's missed 9 games so far. If he stays healthy, that'll be 73 games in total. I think he'll have a couple decently long hot streaks at some point in the season, he's only had one multi-goal game so far. I think a couple hat tricks are on the horizon, along with many two goal games, and end up with around 50-55 on the season if he stays healthy.

I'm not worried about his accuracy so far. A guy like him who takes such pride in that part of his game, and the talent he knows he possesses will probably lead him to being a little pissed off at the production so far and that could lead to a massive scoring tear on the horizon.

I think he sleepwalks to 40 unless the injury is much worse than we thought or he has stopped caring entirely. He's simply too talented and the team actually has a really good supporting cast to help him get 40+.

I'm going with the high end of 40-49, assuming he stays healthy and isn't still playing less than 100%. If he gets it going like we know he can, 50+ is very realistic.

44 is my guess

Has 9 now … based on his goal scoring rate, with the remaining games, that being his totals to that number

All I know is that when I do the calculation based on his current rate of production the estimate keeps getting lower and lower.

He's currently on pace for 31 goals. That's pretty low. It would be his worst showing yet.

I think it's safe to say the Captain has not been playing up to his usual standards.

For the optimistic there is a silver lining. Ovechkin had down years where he only scored 32 or 33 goals a few times in his career. There's no reason to think Matthews won't bounce back from whatever is holding him down too.

For the pessimistic it's the end of the world.

The Captaincy is too much pressure. Berube's system is too restricting. Matthews has lost interest in hockey and wants to pursue an acting and modelling career instead.

The highest paid player in the world showing everyone why he gets the big bucks.

Oh, oh, oh... I know, I know....

Thread title says 24/25 so... you think he's gonna score 24 or 25 goals.

The sad thing is that at the rate he is going you might not be far off.
:thumbu::thumbu:
Yeah that was my thinking - unfortunately, 24/25 seems like it's actually in the ballpark. Not that that's where I think he'll end up, but at the rate he's going it's not out of the question.

Starting to look incredibly prescient of you Gary Nystrodamus.

It wasn't a prediction by any means, I was just noting that unfortunately, such an underwhelming total doesn't seem to be out of the question. Hopefully the sit him out for a couple of months to get him back to 100%, he comes back and looks mediocre for a couple of weeks, and then scores 14 in the last 11 games, just in time for the playoffs. One can dream.

Seriously though, it pisses me off that this last shot aggravated an existing injury. Sit the guy out and let him heal FFS.

At this rate dude even hitting 40 will be a miracle. Reminds me of when Ovi had that injury plagued season where he scored less than 40 in his prime.
