They have been consistently insulting the fans. They think we’re stupid. Yea, he is in Germany to see a specialist. Nothing alarming, he could be ready on Sunday or maybe Florida next week. Sure, whatever you say.

Some folks really do think burying their head in the sand is the most logical thing

Going from day to day and "he'll be back soon" to now requiring specialists from across the globe to treat whatever is going on, while the fanbase has ZERO information on what's even wrong or going on. I mean you really don't need to be that smart to know something serious is going on here.

Get prepared for some worse news in the coming days. It's pretty blatantly obvious why they're keeping secrets, ticket sales are gonna hurt going forward when they announce Matthews is going to be out of a significant about of time.
Ticket sales? The place is sold out from here to eternity. The team doesn't need to worry about selling a single ticket.

I don't know about that, I've never read that the Germans have superior surgeons to the Americans.

...what they do have however is this type of blood treatment, where they extract some of your blood, enrich it, and pump it back in. That helps with the overall healing process for some chronic ailments. NBA players like Kobe and Lebron and I think Dirk too have done that procedure.

So if I were to speculate, that's what he's probably doing there, possibly for a lingering back injury.
Oh, I've heard it said - absolutely. I think Germany is the destination of choice, certainly for Europe's wealthy. I know Massachusetts and Texas and I think Virginia and California are hubs as well, but, from my understanding, the training and the results are peerless coming out of Germany.

Interesting re: blood treatment. Haven't come across that tidbit before.

It's not that weird, it's most likely this:

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP therapy is a new, advanced type of treatment that is changing the field of orthopedic medicine. PRP is a concentrated solution obtained from the patient’s own blood that contains a higher concentration of platelets compared to the concentration found in normal blood. Platelets play an important role in the natural healing process of the body by the release of growth factors that can help in stimulating tissue repair and regeneration.

PRP helps in orthopedics by promoting tissue healing, alleviating pain, and reducing inflammation. It helps in faster healing and has a much lower risk compared to other treatment methods.

Germans are the leading experts at this procedure.
I'm assuming that this doesn't count as blood doping?

The main concern of the Leafs, is and should be winning hockey games. Transparency on an injury, may lead to being targeted by other teams, to expose that weakness, so I'm fine with secrecy.

We aren't entitled to know every detail, and some injuries really don't have set timetabled for healing.

We all need to relax and not be so worked up about this. What's going to be, is going to be.

Winning games and secrecy are not really connected though, even with the idea that somehow star players will be targeted if the word got out. Doesn’t seem to be the case when other, bigger stars than Matthews deal with readily published injuries with timelines.

At the end of the day, the team and player don’t “owe” fans anything but mismanagement of information breeds speculation, day to day media snippets and PR management creates its own sensational news.

You think about all the home games where hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars have been spent by fans. Suddenly the lack of transparency is an issue.

Why is everyone so sensitive about injury news being related. The NFL forces teams to let you know the injury on there injury report. I don’t see people in the NFL saying it’s the players personal medical information.

Not a big deal, but a big deal.

If it is nothing he's week to week and rejoins the team after a couple weeks.

He's not rejoining the team but going overseas to see a specialist(s).

So going to Germany for treatment is something, no matter how many try to make it nothing.

Imagine the alternative where they just said Auston is out with X, will be consulting with specialists but the typical recover is 2 weeks of rest, and light dry land training but with the light schedule we might hold him out a little longer due to an abundance of caution.

Everyone off your back.

There's a reason that teams don't disclose injuries in the playoffs, and it's not because they want to be big meanies to fans.

The only thing that came from the team sharing information was the fans mismanaging it and jumping to random speculation and pandemonium as a result.

You're genuinely unsure why fans on this board are surprised that the team's franchise player and captain who is going to be missing at least 3 weeks now, due to a "day-to-day" injury that apparently pre-dates to before the season started, flew to the other side of the world to see a specialist a few weeks into his injury and recovery process?

How often does an athlete do such thing in the midst of a season without there being the possibility that it can turn out to be something serious and/or long-term?
Christian mccafrey comes to mind recently.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are bigger stars than Auston Matthews, who at the completion of the playoffs were announced to have specific hockey injuries. Abdominal surgery and broken ribs.

Here’s a normal hockey report of Connor McDavid having an ankle injury this season.

Superstars suffering injuries. Transparent timelines.

But they didn't until the season was done. Because it's strategically disadvantageous. Draisaitl is also not a bigger star than Matthews, but that's besides the point.
Here’s a normal hockey report of Connor McDavid having an ankle injury this season.
Yeah. Different players are different, and have different preferences around their medical information. Different injuries are different, and require different precautions and secrecy, and there are different medical timelines and certainty in timelines. If the team isn't saying anything, then it's either out of respect to Matthews, or to prevent a strategically poor disclosure. There's no reason that you have to know.

I seriously hope that Karma is not going to bite him in the ass for trying to squeeze out every penny and going short term on his deals. If he has a bad back (I heard shoulder from someone who knows someone at MLSE...but I don't think a shoulder would keep you from skating)...he is going to wish he signed up for 8yrs.

Why wouldn't he at least be skating if it was a shoulder?
Maybe he is? Maybe too severe risk if he fell? Maybe something else is wrong, he is very secretive even in off season. A year ago the press could not find out if he had surgery during the summer.
Just hope he is ok above the shoulders.
