Prospect Info: Matthew Wood - RW | 15th Overall | 2023 NHL Draft

That would be what you'd do if you wanted to get an honest look at him.

I suspect that our brain trust will just be teeing him up to get rid of him though. I mean, that's what we do.
Hoping when we lock up 3rd place they'll experiment for next year...Trotz will never say it publicly but I imagine with all the talk on social media and Stillman's yelling on 102.5. Owners probably want the best draft odds because they would lose more of the fanbase culturing out of a top 5 draft pick

Sounds like Wood will get his first start tonight. He will be paired with McCarron and Smith.
These are the ideal linemates for the kid. He is going to learn about sandpaper and working hard right out of the gate. I like it. We wouldn’t want to put the kid with our skilled guys right away. He may get the impression that things will be handed to him. He can earn the top 6 and PP time with the best 4th liners in the game. I’m excited to tune in tonight.

I agree, I wouldn’t expect anything different for his first game. Maybe if he impresses we’ll get to see him take a few shifts higher up in the lineup after a few games.

And people wonder why our prospects never develop into anything.

I'm going to go against the pitchforks and think playing him on the 4th line in his first NHL game after like 2 practices and a NCAA season isn't all that outrageous (and is pretty common even). It's a simple, uncomplicated role to play. If he plays well and doesn't look out of place and still just gets token minutes on the 4th though, well...my pitchfork isn't too far.

C’mon, it’s exactly where he should start in this situation. He hasn’t been with the Ads, just showed up and is young. He gets some protection and gets his feet wet. If we were remotely competent this year, he wouldn’t be here at all. Just because the Preds do a lot of stupid stuff, doesn’t mean everything they do is stupid.

Also Bruno is probably awol for this game “for family reasons”. Hope it isn’t serious/sad family stuff and hope the situation hasn’t led him to poor life choices.

If he actually got to play the whole game for 15-18 minutes with McCarron and Smith per the icetime they are getting lately, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

But what we know will actually happen is that during the game he'll get sat out some shifts, switched back, end up with 11 minutes if he's lucky. That's the formula.

Or anyway, at least it would have been under Bruno. Maybe if he's stepping away this game that can change. :crossfing

Many times I would agree but this season we have nothing to lose anyways. Let him play with the good players. If he screws up it doesn't matter anyways.
