I honestly had no idea. He might not be the best player to target on an 8 year deal when he's 30+

While we are at it, look at the top speed players. Stamkos at #5 ???

Corey Perry is playing great but how is it possible that he is not dominating this, the human eye can barely detect when he is moving.

1. Hopefully people will stop overrating speed as much as they do.
2. There are environmental factors as well (like I don't think Bedard is that slow, but he plays on a team with a lot of forwards who can't skate and a lack of premier puck movers on the back end).

A player that's effective even if they can't skate may age better than other guys, since its only when their reaction time starts aging that their effectiveness will fade.

This is all about how you play the game and how your team is structured.

You don't need that many speed bursts if you're a net front guy who doesn't have to work too hard to back check because your defensemen take care of it or your center is always defensively repsonsible.

There is an element of quickness, but I doubt for a second that Matthew Tkachuk is the second slowest NHL'er.

Yeah Joe pavelski would be a good example of this.

Probably tells you how useful speed bursts per 60 are as a measuring stick
To be fair if you look at the top of the list and then the bottom one is a bit better than the other. There will be outliers in anything like this but speed does still kill. However teams like Florida are skilled at moving the puck fast which can obviously still accomplish the same goal

Bedard having one of the worst top speeds is kinda yikes.
Think he's pretty middle of the pack, had certain metrics better last year.

Bedard’s top skating speed is in the 87th percentile among all skaters and his speed bursts of 20 mph-plus is among the 89th percentile among all skates.

If he stopped with the nasty mouthguard outta the mouth thing he'd reduce the drag and be faster, dude's dad today would probably outskate him lol

Because he'll get slower? Kind of confused if it's a trait he's already not relying on, it's not like it's something he'll need to reinvent his game to adjust for if he did have elite skating
He ain't gonna get any faster. He doesn't make it obvious that he's slow. Same with Andri Kuzmenko.
