Matthew Tkachuk was quoted :

“ Heart meets talent. Our team was a team. When things were getting hard for them , they looked to one guy. But our team we do it collectively, and thats why we are lifting the Stanley Cup right now because we’re a team and not a bunch of individuals”.

I believe this is a jab to the Oilers especially Mcdavid and Draisaitl because everyone talks about him like he is jesus reincarnated. Even the commentators not once talked about Florida and how great they were all we heard was Oilers making mistakes or dragging them back to Berta or what the Oilers can do differently and this and that. Florida literally dominated and set a record for most time ever led in Stanley Cup finals history and yet didn’t get praised once.

Paul Maurice also did say that Evan Rodriguez told him this is the first team he has been on that he can just be himself not have to try to be funnier, meaner or anything different to fit in just himself .

Does Mcdavid and Draisaitl think so highly of themselves that the dressing room has become a entitled prick zone where the boys are in their own heads ?

Congratulations Panthers and to their fans amazing and fun team to watch, lowkey remind me of the 2012 Kings with comparable players !

I don't know about the McDrai stuff, couldn't care less right now, but on the ERod quote: on the 32 Thoughts pod Mikkola said something similar about being able to "be himself"

Credit to Bill Zito and the entire Panthers organization, coaches etc they have truly built a great environment and when players can be themselves and become true brothers they will go to war for one another.

I always told myself or rather the biggest “what if” for my Kings was if Slava Voynov was never an idiot wife beater and Mike Richards wasn’t a drug addict how many cup runs did that team really have . What im trying to say is i wonder and can’t wait to see how many runs this Florida team can actually make because they are definitely the standard of the league .

It's hard to be overly critical of guys like McDavid and Draisaitl as they did produce and play at a high-level level throughout the playoffs. That said, they folded at crunch time. When the Oilers needed them most they got dominated. Guys like Barkov, Reinhart, Tkachuk, Bennett etc may not be as talented as McDrai but are winners. My respect for Barkov in particular has really gone up the past few years.

I could understand it being McDavids team, but I can see a big disconnect when people act as if Draisaitl is an important figure. Draisaitl thrives under McDavids shadow which is what I think the problem truly is.

Yeah and when Floridas players aren’t actually afraid to stand up to him they become non existent.

Draisaitl had 0 shots today in an elimination game and Mcdavid only has 1 or 2 points in the last 4 finals games I believe

It's not a dig at McDavid at all. If anything, it's a compliment. Tkachuk is saying that nobody else steps up when they need a big goal, everyone is looking at McDavid to get it done.

Yeah I do not see how anyone can think its a dig. McDavid has a heavy weight on his shoulders, and due to poor team management, he can only rely on Draisaitl to handle some of that weight.

The Florida Panthers are the epitome of a team. They do not care how many goals they score, who wins which accolade, whether they are President trophy or division winners, etc. They are a team that cares about each other, and play for one purpose, and that was to win the Cup. Sure, some people leave because the success they had in Florida has given them financial opportunities, but overall, the team is core is together because they just want to keep winning more than anything else.

Lets remember that guys like Tkachuk and Bennett did absolutely nothing on Calgary. They were dominated by the Oilers. They both had to jump to a stacked team to win. At the end of the day it's the best team that wins. Mcdavid and Draisaitl are unbelievable players but it doesn't matter because two players will never over come 4 great lines, great defence and goaltending. If Mcdavid takes a vet minimum contract and signs with the Panthers and wins the cup next year it doesn't all of a sudden make him a better player and a winner.

The Oilers just are a poorly constructed team. They win from PP opportunities and having 2 top 5 players in the league. when they face a team who not only isn't intimidated, but wants to get after McDavid and Drai, you see that the rest of their team just isn't well equipped to win.

Oiler's best players outside of their big 2 were a billion year old Corey Perry, and Podkolzin, who was a bust of a pick before his hustle came through a bit during the series.

That's a major issue

I dont a feeling Mcdavid and Draisaitl think they are egotistical gods. It's just that the media and fans do. After every win or loss, that's who people want to hear from. Nobody cares with RNH, Hyman or Skinner says.

Those two players are actually put in a tough spot because the entire team revolves around them getting 2-3 pts per game carrying the load. The other skaters do nothing unless those two lead the charge, and half the time the goalies let in 3, 4, 5 goals and those two have to create enough offence to score 1 goal better. And it'll probably be a pressure cooker comeback win too.

On the other hand, Panthers had 3 lines who could score. The final game had the Reiny line piling up the goals. Marchand third line did nothing all game. But in other games it could be the reverse and old man Marchand and his line pile up the goals.

Oilers are boom or bust with McDavid/Draisaitl. They kick ass they win and everyone gets pts. The do nothing they lose and everyone else does nothing. There is no way Oilers can win games relying on bottom 6 forwards to help out. But Panthers can. And everyone knows that. So it must piss off McDavid/Draisaitl as they know they got to carry the load every game.

Yup. Another thing mentioned on 32 thoughts was Florida owner expects all the players to be servants to one another. Nobody is more important than anyone else.

To me that’s what makes Florida different. No member is so important. Look who their captain is. That says a lot.

Lots of teams have to look at themselves like this. At least a little bit more

Is he wrong though?
He’s not right or wrong. Hard to disagree with him after winning back to back cups but he’s also the guy that said he wants Bennett back but would be pissed if Bennett signed a salary friendly deal for the Panthers. Said he’s a players union guy and Bennett has to go for as much as possible.

Again…many can see that as the right way or the wrong way.

Personally I think it’s douchebaggery

He s talking about heart and actual gameplay. One team plays a team game and one depends on two individuals.

Make a different thread if you want to talk about the NHLPA, union, contracts, or whatever.

That’s part of his thinking behind the logo change. It is modeled after Viola’s Army unit arm badge. The qualities you mentioned are a part of what the logo represents and how he wants his team to be, like a band of brothers. And that’s what they are right now.

Nah. Lol

I see taking contracts to stay with your team as putting team needs before personal needs.

Here’s another contract related choice that translates to on ice.

I’m sure Marchand could have gone to a different team. He waived his NMC. He could have chosen a team that would play a Captain like him higher in the lineup and given more ice time that could lead him to more points and raise his value for his next contract.

Instead he chose a team that told him he’d be a 3rd line guy. I don’t like the rat side of him. Never have. But that choice and the way he played in the lesser team role made me like him a lot more.

Tkachuk, to me, comes off as a douche on and off the ice.

Now he’s a 2 cup winner douche. Hahaha. Good for him
