“He’s always asking questions, which for a young guy is huge,” Stolarz said. “Asking how he can make himself bigger (in front of the net), what to do in certain situations. It has been good that he has felt comfortable to ask questions.”

If Knies needed any proof just how effective he can be as a net-front presence, he got it in the Leafs 4-0 win against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.

After providing a screen on Morgan Rielly’s power-play goal in the second period, Knies scored a goal with the man advantage in the third when he deflected William Nylander’s shot past Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman.

“I get to see it in practice,” Stolarz said. “I’m one of the taller goalies in the league. I’m just trying to look around him and it’s really difficult, so I can only imagine how it is for the smaller (goalies).”

“His size and his strength is rare for someone his age and experience,” John Tavares said. “I think he catches a lot of veterans and guys who have been around the league off-guard for how strong and how thick he is, how difficult he is to move.”

Before the season, a 8 year 5M could have been possible.

Now I dont think we get it below 7

He will be bridged, there’s no upside for him to take a long term deal unless it’s a pretty significant overpay. Our best players aren’t ones to give a little back so why should someone like knies?

2-3 years at 4ish million is what I think happens which in all honesty isn’t too bad

I agree, by the time he needs a bigger contract we will have our window closing somewhat. If there is nothing to look forward to with our "Core" guys...then either trade him for a kings ransom and start the rebuild or make him the new center piece of the team. There is no point in trying to get a deal now on a long term contract when we need as much cap space as possible. We should have done that with the big 4...but Duby thought he was getting us a deal.

I’d rather see them move on from Marner (due to financial constraints mostly) and focus on Knies and more depth. They resign Mitch moneybags and Knies is the next Hyman situation, if not now after the bridge deal they’ll need him to sign.

Hope he is ok after the obvious (but likely unintentional) headshot. Knies was really developing some swagger and this could be really derail him.

The SportsNet panel was hilarious trying to justify that one in the intermission.

Even Mike Johnson thought it was a good hockey hit. Again unfortunate, but Whitecloud has to make that hit despite him having his head down.

In the modern NHL we see guys get penalized when the player they’re checking does an abrupt turn and gets drilled from behind so there should have been a penalty.

Just making it easier with each passing day to making their comments irrelevant.

Sportsnet intermission is a good time to get your steps in.

Any news on Knies?

He didn't look bad after the hit, they made him leave the bench. That hit though, first he gets it in the front of the head, then back when he falls to the ice, pretty scary.
