Speculation: Matthew Knies next contract

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

45 points gets you 9 mill a year? You guys are f***ing crazy
Slaf got 8 mill last year, I thought Knies would be nice and give us a deal in the 5-7 range, but now I realize if he wants max dollar, I would not doubt someone will offer sheet him 9-11 which gets the Leafs a paltry 1st/2nd/3rd and totally derails the current core.

Nobody is giving Knies 9-11M come on man lol

If you're a decent team with cap space, why not? Yeah teams that attract UFAs won't, but what does some 18-24 (in the NHL) team trying to take the next step lose, you add a guy who is already nearly 30-30 entering his prime and for a paltry draft cost too.

With the cap going up and already young players doing nothing and getting paid (Swayman 8/Slaf 8/Laf 7.5), I can easily see Knies getting 9+. 9 is the new 7-8 anyways just from the cap going up.

It’s weird to say that Slaf has done nothing and Knies might get $3M more than him considering Slaf outscored him last year by 15pts, currently has 4 less points and Knies plays with Matthews and Marner lol

A lot of intangibles with him though, he's a beast in front of the net and in corners/along the boards. Frees up a lot of space for those 2 to move around, guy is so hard to move from the front of the net.

I agree he’s a very good player, I could see him getting $8M like Slaf who is a good comparable but $11M is just out to lunch

I'd give Knies a 9 mil offer sheet no problem.

Would be interesting to see Toronto's response. Knies at that number plus Marner at 14? and Tavares at 7? eats up all their cap space, without any improvements to the roster or even filling out the roster.
Why would Tavares be a must resign? And Marner at 14 is silly, hopefully the Leafs can say no at that point.
