Speculation: Matthew Knies next contract

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

If he can get 12 points in the playoff this year he will already be better than Matthews and Nylander. Still not as good as Marner though. Pay him!

So break this down for me. What team is paying 4 first round picks for Knies to pay him 9M where he will be overpaid for the first few years at least.

I believe teams would target him for offersheet why wouldn't you he is a 23 year old power forward. I don't believe the price.

Agree you almost dare a team to offersheet here.

Take the 4 1sts or match anything less.

No one is paying those picks so an offer-sheet of that caliber isn't happening.

The media says 9mil so that when he signs for less, everyone in Toronto thinks it's a bargain. Toronto sports media 101. He'll get nowhere near that.

Edit:
Four 1st is Above $11,452,295
$6,871,375 - $9,161,834 is a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
That changes things

Makes no sense .. Protas got 5 x $3.375.. there’s no rational for going that high with term
I don't think using the guy who should fire his agent is the best example... Protas also had 6 goals last year where Knies just hit 25. This is just Toronto radio though. Long term the Guenther and Slaf contracts would probably be the comparables though honestly. If I'm Knies I sign for something like 3x5 and cash in when the cap is like $120 million and I'm a 40 goal scorer

A team giving Knies 5x9 would only have to give the Leafs a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and unless Marner is guaranteed walking I don't think it even takes quite that much to make an offer sheet unmatchable for Toronto.

9 million is a first, second and a third, not 4 firsts. Big difference.
