Kid is playing top 6 minutes and brings an element Leafs offense has been lacking for a long time.

He has all the chips on his side for his future contract.

What is the fair value for a long term deal? Not talking about a bridge here.

Guenther's 7.14 M * 8 years is the obvious comparable IMO.

What do you guys think?

It is clearly way underpaid IMO.

Mercer signed 4 x 3y after a bad season.

Knies is firing on all cylinders and is playing on the top line and top PP.

Maybe 2 x 4 as bridge... 5 x 5 would be a ridiculously team friendly deal.
It's been 10 games lol. He is the 3rd best player on his line.

Mackinnon-Rantanen
McDavid-Draisaitl
Matthews-Marner

All have th ability to make Hyman Colton Knies relevant.

It's not the other way around.

Lock him up with a Seth Jarvis type of deal. With the recent valuation of all the NHL teams worth at least 1 billion the salary cap is going to start going up agressively. NHLPA is not going to let this penny ante 4 to 5 million a year raises to continue.

He has the makings of an elite complementary player. 7 seems too high for that and 5 seems disrespectful. Somewhere in the 6 range and I’ll be happy.

Jarvis scored 146 points before he started that contract. Knies has 43. There isn't any new information when it comes to cap now than there was when Jarvis signed.

He's playing with Marner and Matthews. As another poster said he's the 3rd best player on the line and drives somewhere between jack and shit. I'm no Leafs fan but if they are going to pay Matthews and Marner these kinda of contracts they better be doing it to pump the scoring totals of whoever they play with. You don't pay for those points twice.

This guy isn't some Bozak type player who has decent skills and scores points playing with better players. He has a lot of talent and very intriguing upside. He can play a power game, has a good finishing touch and pulls off impressive finesse moves on occasion. If I was Knies, I wouldn't settle for less than $5.5 mil per.

Contract similar to what Neighbors just signed for makes the most sense for both sides.
That deal makes sense on a bridge, but if we can get an extra 3-4 years, I'd be happy to pay an additional 1.25 m per year to get the term.

6 years, 30 m, 5 m per.

Ok lets use Slaf then he signed for 7.6 mil after 60 points. Knies will be easily over that total as long as he stays healthy. You can bridge him for 4 to 5 million for 2 years if you are lucky then you are staring at another 10 million plus winger after that deal is up. They will have 30 million plus in cap space this off season with 2/3 ELC's in coming at the forward position with8 forwards, 6 dmen and 2 goalies signed. Leafs are in a very good position to lock in a young forward on a max term deal at a controlled number. Something they failed to do with Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. We seen how that handcuffed the team for multiple years. Sign Knies to 7/7.5 mil over 8 years gives you solid cost control. It also leaves 23 million before any trades to spend on a top 6 right winger and top 6 center.

Being the 3rd best player on a line with Matthews and Marner also means something between jack and shit.

He could be from complete scrub to elite based on your description.

I also don’t see him taking $5 per on a long term deal.

If they can get him at something like $6 per year for 6-7 years, that would be very good for Toronto.
