TSN: Matthew Knies isn’t really interested in entertaining an offer sheet this summer. That’s not something he or his agent are pursuing

He could have said "I am just focused on hockey right now, I will let my agent figure that stuff out" you know...not say he wants to stay in Toronto and that he isn't interested in an offer sheet lol do people think he was forcibly made to say he wants to stay in Toronto or something?
That would indicate that he could want out.

He was likely coached by his agent to say something that is more pro Toronto than neutral.

Not saying he wants out and will sign whatever gets thrown his way if he isn't signed, but to think because he said that means he won't sign an offersheet if he and is agent are blown away by that is just silly.

Him saying nothing wouldn't indicate he wants out...it would indicate nothing lol most players don't comment on it....and then will re-sign. It just seems like there is a lot of people hanging on a hope and prayer with Knies. He is going to be a Leaf for a very long time.

I'm not saying he isn't.

I'm saying you're not going to have players leaving things open for interpretation unless they really do want out.

Even if Toronto bring back both Marner and Tavares at like around 20-22 million total they have plenty of space to match an offer sheet unless the team goes crazy and offers him 12, or more.

? Am I missing something? He's very obviously gonna get more than that. A team could do $9.16 and it would still be fair imo.
Oops I was looking at the wrong compensation. Yes something around 9.16M would put the Leafs in a tough spot and the compensation is only 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick.

likely the 9.16 goes up to 9.6 or something with the cap raise.
Which gets a first, second and a third.

9M for Knies and 13M for Marner would destroy the leafs depth as they have like 3M to sign 3 depth players and less than 2M to extend Tavares.

Carolina should be all over this. You can lose their picks and still have Dallas picks.

Sure. Hilarious how people can twist themselves into hearing someone say "I do not want to leave this team" to still mean he wants to leave that team  you want him to leave the Leafs.

What's even more hilarious is you thinking YOU know the meanings of his words exactly..only you, I really could not care before but now I cannot wait til he signs an offer sheet after the season. Your homerism is showing.

Leafs will keep all three, and have money for McDavid the following year.

How many players have come out and said that they're interest in an Offer Sheet? Not sure what the point of this is lol

Leafs will do whatever to keep Knies anyways

My team more than likely wouldn't be in the picture but other teams will..if you don't think they will you're fooling yourself.
My point it won’t get to the point where other teams can even approach him . It’ll get done not long after the season . But again keep hoping for Leaf doom

A lot of people are going to be crying when he resigns 8x8 or something similar with the leafs.
Nah, that's the sort of fair deal that makes sense. Some fans of other teams want to tweak Leafs fans at times but realistically I doubt anyone expects anything but some sort of extension with Toronto. I'm sure the team wants 8 years from him but given his age I'm thinking he extends for six or seven years so he isn't signing his big UFA deal when he's 30. You have to remember that as a very big fan base, the Leafs are going to have a bigger number of over exuberant fans that tend to be the ones getting into mud slinging with other fan bases. I doubt the average fan is sitting there watching Knies thinking their team would actually overpay him on a long deal that would require four first round picks.

The history of offer sheets suggests otherwise.

The Leafs have caproom, and not a single Leaf has ever signed an offer sheet in the cap era.

And GMs don't offer them unless they think they'll be successful..the idea they throw them out to annoy other teams is a fan fantasy and nothing more

I think a Knies OS only happen if they make the mistake of giving huge coin to Marner AND Tavares and neglect him. I think the bridge option isn't really the best avenue. Cap is rising and locking in Knies to a 8x8-8x8.5 would be much better long term than a 2x6-3x7 deal that would then cost 8x10-8x11 then.

If I were the Caps I would offer sheet Knies at the 9M. Would be a good fit for their rebuild on the fly.
